Beautiful set Bob. I especially like the group of toned coins from the 40's.

Bob: Congratulations on the nice set.

Question. I have the 1952(p) nickel in PCGS-MS66FS right here in my hands (old green holder and not available for sale). It is showing pop -1- on the coin list in your set and your coin is not a recent addition, but showing as a 1952(p) in PCGS-MS66FS? What is the deal with that? Is the pop information on the Registry very old information, or was your coin a recently graded piece? This is a rare coin in 66FS grade-what do you think is going on with the pop information in the Registry tables? Wondercoin.

This seems like this will be the next wave of conversation and consternation-- The top pops. Are they correct or, what? As has been said more and more recently, the top pops have to be accurate.
Anyhoo, Congratulations Bob. I seems like this next spurt will take you over the top.
    Great tenacity.
  • I'm curious to see an answer to WC's question.

Tonelover: I just got word from B. Stockford that the coin in his set is only an MS65FS example. He said he has corrected the error by removing the listed MS66FS coin from his set.

It is important to monitor and "know inside out" the series you are specializing in, as differences between Pop "1" and Pop "2", or Pop "2" and Pop "3" can be very important to the serious collectors. Wondercoin.

  • I haven't entered any coins myself, but how does it work? You have to enter not only the grade but the cert # as well right? So if I accidentaly type MS-65 when the coin I own is really a MS-64, doesn't PCGS pick up on that because the cert # doesn't match up? Or do they check?
  • Tonelover, must be a DataBase error. You can't enter the grade, just the cert number. I had a cert number show up as a different denomination and grade once.

    This is curious, and serious.
To enter a coin into the pcgs registry, you simply, and only, enter the CERT. NUMBER, taken directly from the slab in question.
Maybe there's a big glitch in the pcgs data bank, but, I can't see how this is logically happening.
What is up with the pops?
Do you have a clue, Bob?
How did a pcgs cert. number from this 66fs find its way to a registry set?
The pops say there's just one in the world, and Mitch says it's currently in his hands? Probably this is a pop. 2 now?
Why change the coin in the reg. set back to a 65fs? I don't get this one.
Can you give us your best "take" on this, please?

Here's the '97 sale of this coin: Text Sorry, I guess that the DJVU pic of the coin/slab is not available anymore...
    The nickle registry: Link
PS. I'm sure you know, in addition to a "feel" for supply & demand, accurate pops are very important when considering the prices of reg. coins, especially one of this rarity (only six full steppers exist).

Mitch says: "The coin is in his hands".
I say: "That's money in the bank".
  • I was actively buying FS Jeffersons from Teletrade at that time, and probably saw this one go by. I may have even bid on it, but thought $90 was too high for a 1950's nickel! Darn!!!
