PCGS Grade,1964-D Quarter C-Reverse

Just got the E-Mail from PCGS on my 1964-D C-Reverse Washington Quarter. Attributed!!! AU 55.Pop report shows only 3 graded,total.I've got #4.Happy with the grade and attribution. Well done.

Now what many of us non-Washington Quarter collectors would like to know is "what is a C-reverse"?

The type C reverse is a VERY tough one to find. This is the reverse that was used for the 1965 clad quarters.... but one die got used early on the 1964-D's. The type C eagle tail feathers have a very distinct centerline. The leaves on the reverse are somewhat sharper and shaped a little different. The eagle's claws are indistinct and not as sharp in detail. This variety is listed in the Cherrypicker's guide.

Congrats on the attribution! I found one several months ago, but it probably will not get slabbed by PCGS due to a scrape on the obverse...

Tincup explained it to the tee.Very tough to find in any grade.It's just a very cool variety to have,plus it's silver.

The Cherrypickers Guide lists the value at $125 for AU55; $150 for MS60. However, there has been some discussion that this is a very undervalued variety given its coolness factor, and as the population reports show, very very tough. So not sure if the Guide prices are really very accurate. Keep an eye out..... they can be found. I found mine in a group of common silver quarters....

Very,very tough one to find.I guess i was lucky,only had a few 1964-d's to look through when i heard about this variety and found one.The PCGS POP Report shows a MS62,MS61,AU55(mine)and a AU50.Yes,I would say they are difficult to find.

I just bought an NGC 1964d MS64 type C reverse on ebay for $150.00. I think I did quite well, especially considering I have been looking for one for 3 years. Off to PCGS for a cross when it arrives!

Don't send it to PCGS.If you do, your gonna knock me out of third place on the POP sheet.Just kidding.Go for it.Very nice grade and a very nice price you paid.Seems like they're coming out of the woodwork now, which is great,anytime you can create an interest in a coin,I believe it's for the betterment of the hobby.

Notice on the reverse the leaves are indented and clear, the tail feathers are much more distinct, and the individual tail feathers have central groves.

Now that's a pretty nice c-reverse Washington Quarter.Thought i had a decent one at AU55.Time to sell and keep looking.

I would say that it was grooves, between the feathers but the CENTERLINES of the feathers are in RELIEF. In general silver issues do not have centerlines although I have seen weak incuse ones on 1952, 1953 proof quarters. These relief centerlines are on all early clad quarters. Even the type B had then added for clad production.
