Agreed. I've never been so happy to see Barry hit a home run. Maybe Pedro Gomez can go home now.
  • You got to give Hammering Hank credit for his little speech. Everyone knows he the real man.

I just wish Barry thanked the syringe during his little speach. What a shame he forgot such a big factor in his chase image

Bud Selig not being there is a disgrace...Bud Selig = Bowie Kuhn.

  • Congrats to Barry....*sigh* Was very gracious in his speech afterwords. How 'bout The Hammer's video? All class all the way. For better or worse, Barry is the new Home Run King - congrats.

Regardless of this accomplishment being achieved under his own power or enhanced power - it is what it is - a great accomplishment. How long will it take for Selig to recognize him and will he ever congratulate him with genuine emotion?

Selig is a pr$ck. he deserves more shame then bonds mcgwire sosa and the other 90% that took something. He was the comish. and he turned a blind eye to everything in 98 bc of the money and attendance that was coming back from the strike! selig should be fired!

He's a buffoon, every bit the fool that Kuhn was.
  • I thought it was a great moment, Hank Aaron is PURE CLASS. Barry, congrats to you. Seen both your Big homers live, pretty cool...

Sure he is. But even a bafoon knows that Barry Bonds is the lead dog of a BIG group of guys who have ruined the nostalgia factor of the game. Forever more there will be PRE roids records and POST roid records. image

actually canseco was the big dog. or at least that is what he wants to be known for.
  • Congratulations to Barry Bonds baseball's new all time Home Run King. Congratualtion the Great Hank Aaron for displaying true class and being as great a man as he was a player. now if everyone could just realize it's just baseball and not as important as most make it out to be, if he used steroids or not he has still hit more home runs thank any other major league baseball player and deserves the respect of every true baseball fan wether you are a fan of his or not. I was never a big Barry fan but you have to pay respect to his great talent.

I know pre and post war eras, that's easy to define. Help me understand when the PRE roids and POST roids eras begin/end.
  • bigdcardsbigdcards Posts: 1,188 ✭✭✭
It probably began in the late '80s, but I don't think the whole league was juiced at that point. It may be a bit late, but the '94 strike would be a convenient spot to begin the roids era. I think it will become more defined in the near future.

Roids have been around for ages. Too bad the stars of the 1970's had straws sticking out their noses instead of getting a shot in the butt. What about an admitted cheater aka GAYlord Perry. Don't forget all of the GREAT RACISTS who wouldn't let those uppity negroes ruin the great game? The Blame lies in Selig's lap. Lets see timeline 1998. Big Mac and no speekie english Sosa were the darlings of MLB and Selig was raking in the $$$ Barry was prolly thinking to his self... I am the best! IF those jabronies wanna hit 63 I'm gonna hit 73 dammit. Imagine Bud in a stack of cash swimming like Don West LOL. What about Tony Gwynn getting laser eye surgery? Ted Williams never had that option. LOL

  • There will not (and should not) be any asterisks.

There will not (and should not) be any ridiculous pre and post-steroid eras.

Congratulations to Barry and the avalanche of crap he has had to endure as the only one of this era to endure any prolonged scrutiny when it came to steroid speculation.
  • Ban Barry Bonds from the game. And throw him in pound-you-in-the-anus prison.

  • This is so hollow isn't it....if ever a accomplishment deserves a massive asterik, it is this one!!

And no, this has nothing to do with race...Barry was/is a cheater plain and simple...as were Sosa and Mcguire...and no one
likes to see a cheater prosper as Barry has....the great shame is that before he succumbed to cheating, Barry was already
a great player and a surefire hall of famer.....he didn't need to cheat......but he chose the low road!

And of course, their will be people in the days to come to play the ole tired race card as if that had anything to do with it....

The one thing we can look forward to at least is seeing this record broke by Arod or someone else down the line.....
  • I wonder if he had more than 756 steroid injections and cream massages since he began cheating.

On second thought, pretty sure that he has.

Ban him from the sport forever. Remove any mention from record books.

As a baseball fan I feel no joy whatsoever over this. When I was a kid I watched Hank Aaron break Ruth's record, and even though I'm a Yankee fan it didn' matter. I felt pure excitement and jumped all over the place with my brother breaking the bedroom to pieces because we both knew how incredible and special it was. Today I feel shame for the game. Bonds cheats, lies about it, and spits in your face, and some of you want to congratulate him? Hey it's your nickel.

Well technically each new HR is the record. The "riot" for each ball will occur towards the end of the season when each HR ball hit could be the last and of course that would be the record, and of course quite a valuable ball.

Genuine emotion from him would be for Selig to outright call Bonds a steroid cheater since that is what he feels inside.

That isn't going to happen, I think it was best that he was not present, if he stood up and clapped and cheered everyone would
know it was fake and not coming from his heart.

The inevitable is now over and Selig can rest easy knowing that the world did not come to an end.

It was replayed endlessly on ESPN this morning, it looked just like any other home run to me but with much more intensity on
the part of the fans to get the ball. The ball was claimed by a NY Mets fan (wearing a Mets shirt) who got a police escort out of the
stadium for his own protection and to keep the ball in his possession since I'm sure many people would want to take it away from
    him.
