Arod almost to 500 & Who cares?

Has anyone noticed Arod has 498 homers & there is NO press as he is about to reach the 500 hr plateau
Guess 600 homers is the new benchmark for this era

Just another day at the office I guess? Good for Arod, needless to say I hate the Yanks but he is having an incredible year. Imagine where the yanks would be if he didnt have such an incredible April? image

Seems like eeeeeeeeeeverybody's getting to 500 now...that may have something to do with the lack of interest. Also could be everyone excpects him to end up w so much more than 500.

For most players it would be the climax of their career. You usually see a guy's 500th hr in his last few years, after he hasn't been the dominant force he used to be. It renews everyone's interest "Oh yeah, man he was great back in the day, it's good to see him get this milestone." Even a couple years ago when Griffey made it, he had spent so much time injured that he fell off most people's radar, so it was a big deal, even though he was still relatively young (35?).

With A-Rod, he's still in his performing up to his standards so it really is just business as usual for him.

    King Albert? Good one.

Arod's going to be the HR king, and deservedly so.

    Uh, not a tool?

Neither guy is a particular favorite of mine, but at least Arod isn't a whiny crybaby with an ego the size of Texas.

Im wondering...is this a little under the radar because he has soooo many more HRs to hit? I say his HRs wont be such a huge story until he reaches 650 in 3-4 years.

I doubt if he'll play 5 more years. Too much money, and a bad attitude will get the best of him.

    Hmm bad attitude?

You mean like the one where he's the first in the weight room every day, and all he does it perform on the field? Im sure there are 100's of other major leaguers with worse attitudes than Arod.

Baseball is built around statistics. Its history revolves around statistics. Baseball is statistics. Its WAY more then "hardcore" baseball fans who care about baseball statistics.

Ted, care to back that a bit and make it interesting? I'd give you some odds as well. I think ARod is a lock for at least 5 more years and very likely 8 or more. The only consolation to Bonds passing Aaron is that he's not getting the attention he would've if he wasn't such a cheating jerk, and that ARod will blow past him soon enough.

Barring any unforseen career ending injury, I'd bet he plays possibly 10 more years.

I don't care for the Yankees but with Bonds breaking the record very soon, I have become somewhat of a closet Arod fan.

As for him not getting any press on the feat. It's not much of a feat anymore and as someone above posted it might have to do with the fact that he is so young and we are expecting him to hit SO many more.

One reason the press is not following Arod and his march to 500 is simply cuz Bonds and his march to 755 is happenning at the same time.

500 homers is still a big deal.

    Good for you.

they said last night when i was watching the braves and giants that when ruth broke the home run record in 1921 of somebodys, that it was 138 lol, nobody came close to him back in those days, he was huge!!!with all this talk about roids and stuff ,it not like it not anything new ,lyle alzato died years ago from them, its in every sport whether they want to admit it or not, if they are policeing for illegal drugs, woulndt logic dictate that roids would show up in your system as well? like that guy in base bal that finally got kicked out forever for having cocaine in his system like 7 or 8 times(his name escapes me now)?

Arod may have hit his 500th last night depending on how he does during tomorrow's continuation of the June 28th game.

Saw this on a sports show this morning.

If he homers in the game tomorrow it will count as #499 and last night's hit to center field will be counted as #500.

And you thought NASCAR qualifying was convoluted. image

From ESPN: Torre wouldn't say who will start Friday's resumption of a suspended game at Baltimore.
New York was leading 8-6 in the top of the eighth when the game was halted by rain on June 28. ...

You know I hadn't thought about it that way! Wouldn't that be something? The "499" ball last night was brought back by the crew so I assume Arod has it. If he knows what you mentioned here then he should try to kill the ball in the shortened game so he can keep # 500. Of course then the debate will ensue.

And an odd clue for "Final Jepoardy".
Alex Trebek: He hit #500 before he hit #499.

Well, it's driving up the price of A-Rod stuff.

I've noticed that with his 1994 SP rookie card, the prices for PSA 7s and 8s have doubled, while the PSA 9 keeps creaping up.

One of my favorite SNL quotes/skits:

Sean Connery: What's the difference between a mallard with a cold and you?
Alex Trebek: I don't know. What is the difference?
Sean Connery: One's a sick duck..... I can't remember the rest, but your mother is a wh0re.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
