Hammered British NEWP

So I've been getting into the British Hammered stuff lately and I plucked this from a recent Jean Elsen auction. Admittedly the centering could be better, as well as detail. However, what can you expect from a nearly 600 year old coin...image

This is a Half-Groat of Henry VI (Calais Mint)[Spink #1840]. Henry reigned from 1422-1461.

Chicolini: Mint? No, no, I no like a mint. Uh - what other flavor you got?

Yes, this is was my thinking as well. My limited exposure to hammered coinage gives me the impression that the centering is not nearly as important as the quality of the portrait.

Also, although you cannot tell from the pic the coin was nice and flat, no folds or waves. Even a bit of toning!!

CM, I was fortunate to receive my first hammered coins from a good friend of mine. He sent these to me as a complete surprise for my wife and I. My wife is an avid fan of the Era of Kings, and we were thrilled to receive these. One looks identical to yours. I know ZERO about these, so any help on locating facts would be appreciated. Nice looking coins, beautiful pair.

Well, it doesn't look like Freedonian coinage to me... .image
