Complete Type Set Images Available

Amid all the excitement I have completed imaging most of the coins in my Complete Type set. PCGS uploaded them today.
I must admit getting accurate images is more difficult than I anticipated. In looking through them after the upload I can see several that need to be redone which I'll get to after FUN when I image the remaining coins.

Any words of wisdom from more experienced imagers would be appreciated. Especially, ideas for capturing the 69DCAMs. Thanks.

  • Nice pictures, Thanks! Your list of Registry sets is very impressive indeed! Regarding imaging DCAM coins, the angle at which you scan or take a picture is critical. For example, if you scan the coin there are 2 ways to make it show the contrast. One would be to put the coin all the way forward on the scanner bed so the front of the slab is tilted upward. You can also accomplish this using half of a proof set cache. Sometimes just scanning the coin through the proof set lens will make the results much much better

Below is a comparison of the same coin I just scanned really quick. The first is laying flat on the scanner, the second is on a proof set lens tulted about 5 degrees or so. Please be advised this is a copyrighted technique and use of it to enhance your auction pictures will require you to forfeit one coin from your collection, of my choice image

  • Nice. I like the $0.02, and I find it hard to like copper. The thing I most wanted to see right now are the SLQs! That is what I am looking for for my set. Naturally I will be happy to wait until after FUN. I really appreciate your doing this. I love to look at them and will spend more time looking at them later. It must have taken you quite some time. It must have taken lots of time just driving them back and forth to the safe deposit! I'll be adding a few more scans to my set as time goes by.

As to images of DCAM coins I believe we have an expert here, UltimateCameo. The images in the cameo book are great as are the images in the monthly newsletters. Yours show good mirrors but miss out on the frost a little. Perhaps he can give us some tips. I believe both of you have advanced to digital cameras, way beyond where I am at right now.

    Bill,
Nice job and some real nice coins. I was wondering if the 1964 dime will go DCAM since it only states PR69 (I was thinking it was submitted before PCGS was using the CAM and DCAM as descriptions on the slabs)? Beauties for sure image

  • Greg--

Thanks for the comparison. I use a camera with a macro lens but I'll move the light source around and see if I can get the same effect. Thanks.

    Bill,

    Nice 45D Walker. Pretty toning.

How is the coin relative to the picture?

The toning is awesome is real life. The periphery of bothside are iridescent.

Very cool collection, I'd give a six pack and a lobster dinner to see it in person image

I love your 1861 quarter: I have the same year and grade, although mine is better being almost totally white!

    Thanks for sharing the pictures.
