  • Here are a couple found in a google search...I don't know if helps authenticate that signature but might help to compare them.

Looks like a legit sig. It's almost identical to one I have from 1990 or 1991 on a card.

The auto doesnt stand out well enough to judge it.

  • his in person autos are horrible.

i got him once in wrigley about 10 yrs ago, i was all excited w/ knees shaking.

when i looked at the signature, i wanted to chase him down for a better one. it was crappy to say the least.

Griffey loops the middle of his K. Yours is pointed. I say fake.

Here is an "in person" circa 1992 gotten at the team hotel when there were only two other people there getting autographs. Nice guy too, at least in my experience. I've seen a couple like yours usually gotten at the ballpark before games when he signs fast and furious.

Yours is close considering the old fat sharpie and maybe he was in a hurry. It's not a great quality sig but I'd give it a tentative thumbs up without seeing it in person.

    For what its worth,
Back in 1989 Griffey Jr was signing with Stan Musial at a card show in Staten Island NY and I got a few baseballs signed. His signature looked like an electrocardiogram, K up and down scribble and G up and down scribble. The next year, I go to the San Francisco Bob Lee Labor Day show and I see Griffey autographed baseballs with all the loops and you can read every letter of his name. I asked the dealer when he got these and he said he got them in a private signing and that Griffey had changed his autograph.

Barry Bonds is another player who has drastically changed his autograph several times.

Yup, it's my card. I just wanted to see what folks thought, since it looks so different from his "normal" sig. I was a little ticked off when I compared it to his 89 Bowman card. I thought about sending the card in to get slabbed and graded, but for $35 (fees + s/h), that's kinda steep if Jr's auto doesn't "look" authentic enough.

I got the card signed in-person back in 1990 at a show he was doing with his dad. I was about 14 at the time. I brought the 89 UD card with me from my collection for him to sign, got that done, then walked past the table with a huge stack of 89 UD Griffeys priced at $8 each, and began walking the floor to find the lowest price I could find on 1990 UD boxes. I eventually found a guy selling them for $30 each. It was such a bargan, I bought 2! I also picked up a 1987 Fleer White Sox team set for $5, but just because I thought it was a steal for one of those scortching hot Bobby Thigpin RCs. image

    Thanx digi

I was wondering if you got it signed in person.

It's great to have in your personal collection since - for one - it's got history.

Now - I agree with the fees - I just think it's not clear enough to spend a lot of money on IMO.

But, great card! Was the Griff friendly or what?

The Jr auto is something that's been cool to have in my collection, though most of the "kids" I grew up with didn't believe it was real (using the 89 Bowman as the comparason at the time). Oh well.

Jr wasn't friendly, but he wasn't unfriendly either. I think he was still getting used to things. He was silent, signing autos and smiling. His dad was also signing, and was chatting it up with folks who wanted to talk, but he wasn't signing much. In the 20 min or so that I spent in the line, I saw his dad sign only a few things, mostly his half of the "Griffey: The Next Generation" poster. If it wasn't for his name tag and a copy of the poster on the back wall, I think many of the folks there wouldn't have known who he was. image
