1993 & 1994 OPC rip.....

I know this is not the most exciting rip I've shared here, and I know 95% of you consider this junk, but I just got a big shipment of 80s-90s OPC, and these two years are fairly hard to find in unopened form, so I thought I'd take them out of their unopened form thereby making the other ones I have in unopened form more valuable. Actually I was just bored and wanted to rip something.

To give a little background, in 1993 OPC decided to make their own design instead of mirror Topps'- my guess is they were trying to create their own identity and become a name in the US, as this was the first time they sold directly to US stores on a broad scale. I really like the design of the cards and they have a cool semi-gloss finish. The pulls below were the gradeable stars I pulled out of three vending boxes. I had never even heard of 93 OPC vending so I bought all the guy had (11 boxes).

In 1994, OPC went a step further and made their cards full gloss, and added 4 subsets seeded at one card per pack. There were Hot Prospects (with foil), Diamond Dynamos (with foil), World Series (with foil), and All Star redemption cards which could be exchange for a Jumbo All Star card of that player with foil stamping. Also, you got one Jumbo AS card as a box topper with no foil stamping. I only got one card each from the first three subsets per box, and the rest were AS redemptions. These cards are the most condition sensitive I've ever seen cmoning out of the pack, even moreso than the early Upper Deck SP foil cards. Just about every card has chipping, and I think the packaging process was rough because a lot of the cards have corner dings. I decided to open 2 out of the 6 boxes I bought.

Here are the stars I think have a shot at a 10:

  • My humble (biased) opinion, those 93s combine the best design elements of the 80s AND 90s.

Not bad! Don't the OPCs have fewer cards in the total set? Wouldn't that increase the number of stars per box??

Thanks for sharing. If you want to unload any and all Pucketts, I'd be ready to make a deal!

    Those '94s are freakin' sweet.

Crisp and clean action shot with a cool border.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
