I haven't seen one of these before:

If Fred Weinberg has seen this , I hope he could shed light on it.
I was reluctant to bid on it , not knowing for certain.
I found a couple of black ones and they don't look like this.

New issues bring out the curious speculators with deeper pockets, I guess.

Please post a pic. It's hard to imagine a sintered planchet with so much gold color still in the coin...., but I hope Fred will chime in.
I was asking "those who are in the know"... if that is the same thing? Or two different types of 'defects'...
(sorry I couldn't linkify the 2nd one, Kiyote link'd the 1st one for me).

Can we see a pic? Or a linky-doo...?

I reported this shortly after they came out and if folks are willing to pay hundreds for it, then I'm game.
I should probably keep it to go with my sintered planchet Peace Metal nickels but I don;t think I will.

Link, note the cracked edge
<< <i>That listing hurts my eyes and requires way too much scrolling for my tastes, although I did see how the seller says he knows nothing about coins, but knows everything about this one. Hopefully the underbidders are driven to more subdued listings for such coins en masse . >>
I was going to type the same thing. I don't understand why any ebay lister would type descriptions in random colored extra large bold font.
NOW - back to my ORIGINAL QUESTION... (^way up there at the top^)...
I posted two different links for "Sintered" and "Unburnished" examples... if they are NOT the same thing, then can someone please show me (and explain) an example of an Unburnished GW?? Does it look similar to the missing clad layer (coppery), but not thin?? Or is the color normal but "dusty"?? Or what??
~ Thanks all ~
Nickels, States Quarters, Halves, and
the new Presidential Dollars, amoung
other series.
It's due to mis-annealing of the planchets
before they are struck.
The problem occurs in that, as the Plain
Edge coins, it's difficult sometimes to
be able to determine if a Washington
Dollar (or States Quarter, etc.) is a
genuine Sintered Planchet, or just toned,
re-colored, etc.
In many cases, the scans of the coins can
lead one to say "Yes, it looks genuine",
and some posted here certainly are genuine
from what I see, but others are too tough
to call just from the scans........

Why doesn't it occur on dimes? Is the annealing process different since the planchet is much smaller?

good examples on clad dimes that I
can recall.

The item description states: "See Item number: 230109529455 another Black Dollar sold for $905.00"
and : "Rare Major Error Black / Sintered Coin"
BIN - 0.99 - Sintered GW
<< <i>Now, this listing completely befuddles me:

Ha! Looks like the seller got blinded by his big, red text and didn't realize he set up a BIN.
