Well, it's nice they finally got something. I feel for them and you jadrake.
Although the title of the article said 68 month wait, the text and date of 2005 says it was a 68 WEEK wait. That's entirely too long.
Here is my redemption from upper deck: Redemption Code Date Received Description Status Status Date RMN6G7NJ8 9/24/2005 HEATH MILLER 05 NFL SPX - SPXCITING AUTO JERSEY # TO 1275 CD# 215 Card 0/1275 Autographs in house, cards in production process, expect some delays until completion. 2/6/2007
That's right. Received 9/24/05 and still waiting. That puts me at about 78 weeks. I called them a couple of times during the first year and was told it was almost ready. I could wait or to a replacement. I told them I'd just wait if it was close to being done. Then I tried again about three months ago and said I'd take the replacement. I told them I was a Colts and Reds fan, so any auto of Manning, Harrison, Addai, Griffey Jr., etc. would be fine. They said the book value of my redemption was $60 according to becket and they would find something at that price range and get it out to me.
Of course, I've still go nothing, and quite frankly have no desire to do anything about it anymore. All I can do is stop buying Upper Deck product and tell as many people as I can that the customer service sucks. It would be hard for them to argue with the way I've been treated.
Nice they did that...but is it just me, or did very little of that writing actually make any sense? Once I re-read it as a response to a complaint it made a little more sense....

Other than that, though, it has been fairly informative.

Well, I would like to think that UD is actually going to come through with big changes in their redemption program starting in 2007.
I can say that a few or my recent redemptions have been fulfilled in a matter of days to weeks. It looks like they're using a 3rd party service to ship a lot of their items now, so if that's what it takes, great. I redeemed a pack of UD Black on 2/17 and received it on 3/23. Even better, a Johan Santana auto that I redeemed on 8/13 was actually shipped out on 8/18. A Carl Crawford that I redeemed 8/26 was shipped on 8/28! Now don't get me wrong...I still have a few cards in my Pending bin that are 4+ months old. Still, in comparison to just a year ago, that's nothing!
I have also noticed that they changed some of the terminology and comments on the Redemption Status page on their site. Instead of 3 groups (Pending, Shipped, Disqualified), they changed "Shipped" to "Fulfilled" and "Disqualified" to "Other". I assume "Fulfilled" means that cards in this category have been built and set aside to be shipped. Also, instead of immediately marking shipped, they now have "Item in process of shipping along with other projects, expect within 14 days." My UD Black pack still has that status, but I assume it will change to shipped soon. I think this is a step toward a little better honesty (with us and themselves) about overall turnaround times.
All in all, after some ridiculous multiple year waits for redemptions, I am seeing improvements. Here's hoping they keep it up!
Maybe it would be a good idea to follow what the person with the Sandberg redemption did and start hitting up the Consumer Affairs reporters. If a coordinated effort took shape, UD would hopefully cut the BS under the threat of an impending PR crisis...
