what the heck is "minimum size req." not met??

Hey Guys,

I have read the boards for a long time but have never posted.

I enjoy the discussion and have learned alot along the way.

Recently I sent in an expensive card (expensive for me anyway!) image to be graded
and it came back "Not Holdered, Did not meet Minimum Size Requirements"

Does anyone have any experience with this? I have never heard of this!

Does this mean the card is authentic and untrimmed, but was just cut too small by the factory years ago??

I am wondering how PSA decides exactly what is, "too small"

I am really bummed because it was one of the last 2 cards I need for my NFL HOF rookie card set!image

Anyone have any knowledge or views on this?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff, your statement about authentic, untrimmed but cut too small by the factory is true.

  • I assume PSA doesn't grade them because they'll have too much space to slide around in the holder and possbly get damaged after they've been encapsulated.

Does anyone know PSA's official position on why these cards aren't slabbed?

joemaggio, what you said is true.......plus PSA feels that if it is too small, it will look like a trimmed card in the holder even though it is not trimmed. Joe told me that himself.

    I agree - resubmit.

  • Has anyone had any success resubmitting in this type of case.

Won't they just kick it back out as too small again??

PSA did send me a free voucher for another grading.

I have resubmitted three cards that had been rejected. Two were graded the second time-one was originally called miscut, the other recolored (a 59-go figure).

Gabbs, welcome to the message board.

I sent in a lot of 1000 cards to be graded for a friend of mine. The cards were 60-63 Fleer football and 68-70 topps football. 46 of the cards came back minimum size required. I resubmitted the 46 cards and half of them were came back graded PSA 8's with one PSA 9. The remainder still had the "min. size req." designation. I would keep on trying if it was a big card.

  • I had a beautiful 1981 OPC George Brett (an easy 8) that was rejected for not meeting the minimum size requirement. I resubmitted it several times with no success. After 3 or 4 rejections, I quit submitting it.

    Thanks

  • I had a beautiful '67 Red Schoendienst that I submitted a couple of years ago and it came back as "doesn't meet min. size requirements" as well. I sent it to SGC and it came back graded and 84/7. I sent it in with 2 other '67s(Stargell and Marichal) and they both came back 8s and it was nicer than both. I'm wondering if I should resubmit also?

Its seems to me that many of the 75 minis were cut short.I have sent a couple of these to PSA with several other 75 minis. One of these short ones was the Schmidt which otherwise would be a probable 8 or 9.I am curious to see what happens. The short cards definetly were not trimmed however bit shorter than the norm.Hopefully PSA does grade them otherwise the 30 or so cards that are in my set which are to some degree shorter wont stand a chance. In most part the cards that are shorter are low pops except for the Schmidt so my chances are probably not that good of getting a grade.

    Any opinions???

  • I've got some 75 mini's that are larger than the correct size. As well as some that are too small. Will these cards that are too large be given a min siz req as well?

The larger cuts will come back most likely as non holdered miscuts as some of my minis have in the past. Its a shame but it is what it is.

  • as usual thanks for all the great insight guys

I guess i will send it in with my next sub.

It really sucks that a legit card wont get slabbed!!
