Christmas gift idea

If you need a Christmas gift idea and you have a lot of coins to clean ask for a Rock Tumbler. That was one of the most used gifts that I got last year. And it works great!!

I got one last year, too. Have only used it once but it is indeed good to have.

I had ten years of metal detecting coins to clean and it did the job on them. I did find that if the clad is seperated from the cents that it won't have that copper look when your're finished.

Do you clean the ones you find, or what do you do with them?

Hmmmm, think I'll start droppin' hints.
  • I have one similar to this.

Cleans a lot of coins at once and is pretty quick about it.
I bought it originaly just to polish the coin rings I make , but have used it 5 or 6 times now for coins.

coinnut86- I did hint that it might be handy for tumbling dug coins, so my wife got me one. I tried it on some crusty V-nickels and Indian cents and suchlike, which I'd dug. The results were mixed- I was trying crushed pecan shells as a medium, which was recommended to me by some local friends.

The last time I had a tumbler (a much cheaper one) I used regular beach sand as a medium and was tumbling some of those "uncleaned" ancient Roman coins from an eBay bulk lot, and the results were quite good. I just tumbled them overnight and in the few cases where they were overpolished (showing brassy colored high spots), I daubed 'em with sulfur-Vaseline paste and they redarkened nicely.

I think I might go back to the beach sand. It's plentiful enough here.
