    No, it doesn't look real.

But a grade of AU-53 sounds reasonable.

    No, it doesn't look real.

I see nothing in the poor photo to indicate that it's definitely fake, but the chopmarks sure are a bad sign. I'd put the odds against authenticity at 1000:1.

I have a queasy feeling about it, but if it's fake, it's better than a lot of Chinese counterfeits.

Try weighing it if you can. If it weighs right, that is a step in the right direction.

A well done fake, if it is fake.

Did many of these get chopmarks? Don't the chopmarks reduce the value significantly? It doesn't make sense for a counterfeiter to make a coin andthen add a feature that both reduces the value and makes people suspect it is counerfeit. The exception would be if this is a contemporary counterfeit that was passed in trade where perhaps eyes were less experienced at detecting counterfeits. But chopmarks were meant to verify authenticity and weren't trade dollars essentiallyl a bullion coin? So why counterfeit a bullion coin out of bullion???

  • I'm no expert, but it doesn't look real to me. The overall details are too weak, and it doesn't look like wear.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

That is a cast copy off of a B-14, BB-51. It is NOT real. They did a much better job than usual (i.e. using a real 1795 as a host coin), but there are mistakes. For me, the most obvious problem is with the star details. At that grade level, they should be sharp and well defined. With a cast coin, these will appear mushy, yet the star itself will be deep. Hard to explain, but trust me........this is a fake. They put on the chopmarks to take your attention away from the obvious.
