My pal Billy has fallen on hard times and needed money for a lawyer so he can fight for custody of his children (long, sad, sordid tale). Anyway, I loaned him money and ended up with his detector, a Tesoro Tejon, a couple of odd searchcoils for other machines, and some books. This means I now have FOUR detectors, and barely the opportunity to use one of them very often.

Garrett GTI-2500: this will remain my primary coinshooting machine. Got it in a trade with goldrush00013 this summer.

Garrett GTAx-550: bought it around two and a half years ago after a short period when I was completely detectorless. This was my primary coinshooting and general-purpose machine until my recent acquisition of the 2500.

Tesoro Tejon: Billy's detector. Now I have a deepseeking relic machine again. I will likely try it out and if I like it, I'll keep it.

Troy Shadow X2: this was my relic machine last year. I also got it from Billy, when he upgraded to the Tejon. A good relic machine which goes deep but which died this spring, due to a bad searchcoil, I suspect. One of the things I got from Billy was an extra coil which should work on this machine, and hopefully that will tell me if the problem was the coil or not. This replacement coil is hideous- the mounting portion of it had apparently cracked and Billy had epoxied another set of brackets on top- totally ugly but if it works at least I'll know if the Shadow just needs a new coil or if other repairs are necessary. If the problem is the coil, I can use the ugly one or just buy another. I haven't tried the ugly coil on the machine yet, but will, when I get a chance.

I also got a searchcoil for a Garrett Groundhog, which does me no good since I have no such machine. (Steve, need a spare for your old Groundhog?) This too is rather ugly, but not because of improvised repair jobs- it's just kind of old and yellowish looking.

SO, what to do with four detectors? The obvious answer is that I am gonna need to sell some. I think I wanna keep the Garrett 2500 and I might keep the Tejon after trying it out. But I will need to sell the Garrett 550 and possibly the Troy Shadow (after figuring out what its problem is). Of course, Billy is now detectorless, so I might let him use the Shadow until he gets on his feet again.

Guess I need to get pictures of the Garrett 550, in preparation for eBay. Somebody here on the forums was gonna trade me a nice coin for it, but he apparently dropped off the face of the earth.

Not so bad, then. I paid Billy $400 and got the Tejon and some books. It was sort of a "pawnshop" deal. I told him he could get his reference books back when he's in a better cash position. In the meantime, I'll read some of them. They're mostly about the Civil War but only one of them deals with relics (a book on CSA beltplates).

Well, if you want one, I have a decent used one. $400 plus shipping. I can use the Troy Shadow as a relic machine when I get that fixed, so I don't have to have the Tejon. (Though I will likely try it out on the site where Billy did so well with it, since that is near my home.)

I don't know how long Billy had the Tejon, but I would imagine less than a year. I seem to remember him raving about his new machine sometime early in the year.

As funny as it sounds, your predicament is not though. I once collected VW Beetles that way. I had one, someone drove by with their's and asked if I wanted to buy their's cheap. "Sure", I said. Next thing I know I have people stopping and saying things like, "I see you collect VWs. Want a another one?". Aaaack! In the end I did make money in the spare parts business. Eventually different people began stopping to ask if I had a spare set of heads, a flywheel, a carb, or whatever. Eventually I sold mine with two boxes of spare parts left over from my Bug collection.

If she did go for a new detector , it would need depth and ID meter..like the-Tesoro Cortés or DeLeón.

I could not find any info on how the Tesoro Tejon would work around salt water? Have you used it at the beach?

Well, guess what?

Between this morning and this afternoon, I became the owner of a fifth detector.

A friend called me and asked me if I wanted a nearly-new Garrett GTA-1000. Well, I told him I needed another detector like I needed another hole in my britches, but asked him how much, just to be polite. He said $200. Hm, I thought- that's a pretty cheap price for a nearly-new Garrett 1000! (Remember, I used a mere 550 for the last two years until I jumped up to the 2500.) This particular friend is... umm... a little shady, so I was reluctant. Not that I think it is stolen- he's not that shady. But I told him I had to see the thing before I made any decisions. I figured if it was as nice as he said, I could flip it on eBay for a profit.

Well, it was as nice as he said. The thing looks practically new. He says the past owner used it like 8 or 9 times, and took very good care of it. I can believe it. There are two tiny Georgia Bulldog stickers on it (!?) but those will come off (those Bulldawg fans here are somethin'- geez). I swapped my friend $150 and an old, rusty, nonfunctional antique rifle that used to hang over my grandmother's mantelpiece, just as an ornament. The old gun didn't cost me anything (my uncle just gave it to me but I don't have a fireplace to hang it over, and my friend does).

So I have $150 in this machine.

I shipped off the dead Troy Shadow X2 to Tim (phut) today, so I'm back down to four machines as of this evening. Three Garretts and a Tesoro Tejon. I am gonna keep my top of the line Garrett (the 2500), and the other two (my 3-year-old 550 and the like-new 1000) are gonna go to eBay.

Attn: Ryan Distelrath- since you didn't have PMs activated and we have been having some email difficulty, and you were interested in the 550, just wait- I will list the 1000 and you can bid $300 on it since you had offered me that for the 550. If you win the 1000 for 300 bucks you will get more bang for your buck. If you do not win it I will still have the 550 and will sell you that for $300 and I'll pay the shipping. If you don't win either I might still have the Tejon. I am not planning to list that because I sort of want to try it out first, and maybe keep it as a backup/relic machine (unless my friend Billy decides he wants to buy it back since he only sold it because of his divorce).

I need to take pics of the Garrett 550 and 1000 but maybe I will list them within a week, time permitting. I will link 'em up here if I do.

LOL...I know how you feel. I picked up a New White's Prizm 2. I think the grand kids will be able to use it. Also the wife might like to try it. She has been using one of the Eagle units.
So I now have two White's Eagle 2 SL units. One White's DFX unit. One White's Prizm 2.

I also have some old Treasure Hawk and...I don't know the name :-( Both over 20 years old LOL.
