NEW '21-P, '21-D + '78 7/8

I just found these at my local coin shop. Pretty cool, I think.

1878-7/8 TF, VAM 41a, LDS. (Very nice clashed "In" imprint in front of Liberty's neck. My pictures suck, though.

  • Is the Philly a VAM-41? Kinda tough from the pics, but the vertical striations resemble my examples. I like the nice late state of the Denver coin. What shape are they in? The VAM-2B isn't very common in MS.

I believe it is a 41. It's an AU. The 21-D, "M" with the diebreak is also an AU.

The 41A with clash is known as 41C, and also has clashed wing feathers below Liberty's jaw. 41 with a clash is 41B. Two totally different obverse dies, but Leroy chose to leave the numbers as they are. I like the 21-D!
  • Great finds! I've gotta get a good camera.
