WARNING! Not a good time to sell high-dollar material on Ebay!

I won a couple of pieces tonight for less than what I expected, one considerably so.

So I went over the the Ebay discussion boards to check if we're in the middle of a dead period, and sellers are going ape. There's a major problem with the Ebay search system; Ebay is rolling out a new search and is beta testing it without letting anyone know... and it's broken. Some people get the new search and some people get the old search.

Apparently right now is NOT a good time to be selling anything high dollar unless you have a reserve or are doing a fixed-price listing.

Caveat venditor!

  • Something is definatly going on with the searches on ebay. I have a bunch of saved searches that run daily and email me with any matches. I usually get at least 5 email a day. This past weekend I didn't get saves search emails any then got 20 emails tonight. So it looks like whatever was going on may be fixed

Hmmm... I just posted a 1967 FDC set from France with a starting bid of approx. $150. In 12 hours I've accumulated 7 watchers and an-mail from France requesting to buy now at $200. Maybe everything's fixed? I hope...

  • I spent some time updating my favorite searches. One change is for combo searches such as:
(England Ireland) now has to have a comma and no spaces as in: (England,Ireland)

The searches seem to be working now. The email notifications are still kinda messy, so I unchecked everyone of them.

    Hey Dan,

Got a link to the discussion boards talking about this problem?

I thought the activity on eBay has been pretty dead for some time now. Curious that eBay is making it worse now... image

My eBay changed over a short while ago to the new look and new search. It sucks eggs. If I sign out of eBay and log in under my fiance's eBay ID I get the old version.

Sellers have gotten the word. Brit coin listings are down, but not by as much as I had first thought.

Does this still seem to be a problem? I was thinking of listing a gold coin this weekend (my last big push for getting cash for spending at Baltimore).

    Thanks for any info.
