Auburn never deserved that ranking, but go Hogs!!
  • Thanks for the replys. How did South Carolina fair against Kentucky. I know that it was 7-7 on last look. As far as Auburn deserving the ranking I don't know. They are a quality football team, we just outplayed them today...........

  • that was a shocker, imo.

i had a big play on florida +1 today...

i think auburn beats florida this weekend however.

and a big, to hell with georgia - it's about time those overrated losers played someone halfway decent image

Don't take Auburn. You'll regret it. They are one-dimensional. Stop the run, stop Auburn. And UF's run defense is top-5 this year.

Their run defense and pass-rush is great. But historically, Auburn is tough at home and Florida a weak road team. Also Florida has no kicker... I think Auburn's defense is better than LSU's, and it's a hostile environment. Urban sure dug into his bag of tricks today, and Auburn has a lot of film to watch. Auburn should be a small underdog too.

We can both agree it'll be a great game!

Don't mistake the old UF teams with this one. Under Spurrier we would either win by 35 or lose by 10. We hardly ever won a close one, much less came from behind. Under Meyer, especially this year, this team has become a much tougher team. We have trailed in each of the last 4 games and won them all, and that includes being down 10 at UTenn.

  • I didn't figure on the officiating playing such a critical role in this game. They were the difference.

  • He didn't look like he was trying to throw it, and it sure came out funny (like it had been knocked loose), but based on the rules, his arm was going forward, and I agree it should have been ruled incomplete. This game was decided by special teams...

Our punter flubbed it, no doubt about it. But if the QB's arm is going forward, it's an incomplete pass according to the rule. It doesn't matter whether he intended to throw it or not. Then to make matters worse, the officials don't even review it. Florida has to burn their last timeout to get it reviewed. They waste 5 minutes reviewing petty plays or plays that are obvious, but then don't review a play that decides the game. WTF?

The officiating in this game was horrible.

I think I was getting another beer when that happened. The refs are told to almost always call iffy plays a fumble so they CAN review it, but to make Florida force their hand is horrible officiating.

I think we'll see this matchup again in the GA Dome.

I hope so. The only thing that concerns me is Auburn gets the benefit on calls to beat LSU, SoCarolina, and Florida all in close games. Kinda makes me wonder if they are making up for Auburn's screwing at the hands of the BCS a couple years ago. Either way, this game could potentially cost the conference millions in BCS money.

  • Just remember you're talking to a guy who's team lost it's first game because the refs felt looking at Quinn funny is roughing the passer....

Then I'm sure you can appreciate it. Officiating at the college level is poor across the country, and there's simply too much money at stake to let these part-time zebras interpret the rules incorrectly. We were called 2 weeks ago for roughing the passer on a WR pass.

Don't get me wrong, we should have played better in the 2nd half. But there's been too many instances of officiating playing key roles in these games outcomes.

So does this mean USC moves up?
  • no, michigan should grab that spot.

Why's that? They beat a bad team by a touchdown today, much like USC did.

Not sure how USC gets leapfrogged again...I see them moving to 2.

Not exactly. Michigan was favored by 7 (on the road vs Penn State), USC by 21 (at home vs AZ State).

  • PSU is better than ASU, and USC was only ahead of Michigan by a little bit in the last AP poll. It'll be close, but I doubt it matters since OSU beats Michigan and Cal beats USC anyway...
  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
Point spreads, for those that don't know, aren't predictions of the outcomes of games, but simply odds laid to get betting on both sides of the action. Michigan should have beaten that team by much more than 7, but, because of the lines, people who don't understand sports betting will say 'they covered!'.

PSU gets a ton of action because their faithful will bet their team no matter how bad the odds - home with 7 is a terrible proposition against a very good team like Michigan.
  • No, the spread was low in the Michigan game because they were without Manningham, their best WR - get your facts straight. If you want to talk about stupid money, how often has USC covered lately image

Nice try at the spin move, there, Ax, but bottom line is Michigan win in Happy Valley by 7 is more impressive than USC win at home against AZ State and that's why Michigan will be rated higher than USC.

No spin move needed - lines are not 'predictions' of the outcome. They are predictions of what's needed to get bets on both the favorite and the underdog.

But then, I am sure you knew that, right?

    Ok dope.

Go read something about how sports betting lines are established, then come back and talk to me.

Until then, shut your damn mouth.

In the world according to Axhole, Michigan -7 over PSU on the road is the equivalent to USC -21 over AZ State on the road as far as favorites are concerned. Even a moron like you with very little knowledge about football ought to know better than that! Boy you really are a dope!

Ax doesn't concern himself with facts. All he does he is spout nonsense and then claim he "owns" the other person. He knows NOTHING about football.

Since you don't know about how point spreads are established, and you continue to admit as such over and over, I'll enlighten you, idiot.

When a team is very, very popular (i.e. Penn State), it doesn't take much to get people betting on that side of the game. So michigan state on the road only takes 7 points to get money going to both sides...which means the sports books are making the max amount of money possible.

Now, when you have a team like USC, a true juggernaut (2 national championships and a third title appearance, all in the course of three years), who is playing a considerably less popular team than PSU, the sportsbooks have to make the ASU line VERY appealing to get any money on that side of the game (hence a 21 point line).

Now, do you understand? A more popular team with fiercely loyal bettors = smaller line. A considerably less popular team = bigger line.

  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,694 ✭✭✭✭✭

What an idiot you are. That is the most asinine assertion I've ever heard about betting lines. You need to educate yourself better than that, dopey.

Why don't you look at the lines for the green bay games this year, idiot, and tell me that team loyalty and popularity have nothing to do with betting lines.

Then, when you are ready, I'll have a nice big steaming pile of crow for you to consume, douche.

    Did I say favored, idiot?

    NO...read it again.

I'll wait...I know you have reading comprehension issues.

Look at how small the lines have been (with the exception of one game). Dallas games are the same way. Those teams have wildly loyal betting fans, so the sportsbooks don't have to give many points.

USC will move into the #2 position, and team betting patterns definitely alter betting lines.
