B.N.A. coin show this weekend -- Show report

If anyone is in the Buffalo area the Fall Buffalo Numismatic Association Convention show is this Saturday and Sunday Oct 7-8. I will be there Saturday morning and probably Sunday morning before the Bills game. Here is some info:
<< <i>Buffalo Numismatic. Assoc., Inc, 2006 Fall Convention, Cheektowaga (South Buffalo), NY
Oct 7, 2006 - Oct 8, 2006
2735 Union Road, Columbus Hall (NYS Thruway Exit 52A)
Over 75 tables of Coins, Currency and Stamps. Free parking for over 1,000 cars. Refreshments available. Saturday hours: 10AM-5PM. Sunday 10AM-3PM. Free appraisals. >>
There is a $1 admission fee.
There should be at least two dedicated darkside dealers there. One is Mike Fiedler who has a fantastic assortment of affordable coins ($3-500). His prices are a little stiff but his grading is very conservative and he is a very knowlegable and friendly guy to deal with.

The only darkside coin I'm going to be looking for specifically is a St. George & the dragon coin like Hyperion showed awhile back - I really liked that artwork.
I have a few things on the US side I want to look for, including SCD's or anything interesting in general.

Was it gold or silver?

I believe the coin was his holed silver crown: USCF Thread
. I'll probably be looking for a crown more than a sovereign.

The get-together is in NE Pennsylvania, though. I'll be driving through Buffalo on the way there sometime on Friday afternoon.

Ah, I'll get over it. The chances of there being any BNA coin shows here in So' Cal' are slim to none.
Obscurum per obscurius
Saw a quite a few ancient coins but I thought the prices they were asking were very high. On dealer has a lot of nice 19th and 18th C crown size coins but what he was asking for them was also on the high side IMO. Overall a good show. I'll probably go back tomorrow when it isn't so crowded and I can talk to a couple dealers.

Met up with Ajaan about 10am, and left around 1pm. Tried to find a St. George & the dragon crown, but there were only a few there, and they were either key dates (ie too expensive) or very cleaned. I will find one eventually. I won the 50/50 drawing for $49, and sold the 5 Marks I mentioned earlier this week - didn't intend to leave with more money than I took, so that was a nice surprise.
Only found 10 Canadian breast cancer quarters to give my mom, and bought the new Cherrypickers Guide book. There was plenty of coins I could have bought, but nothing that really called out to me, so it was a light buying day.
I went to this show in the Spring, and noticed just a few differences. The spring show was dominated by gold, not much at this show. I also noticed more slabbed coins than in the spring, but no slabbed Bust or Barber coins I was looking for.
It was a fun few hours. Met a cool guy (Ajaan/Don), and took a co-worker to his first coin show, and he was happy.

Whoosh! That went right over my head.
I also picked up a couple more Ch. BU Swiss silver 1F and 2F coins. I feel these coins are undervalued. In addition. I also bought a few Maundy coins. I was really looking for Maundy sets but no one had any.

<< <i>I went back to the show this morning. A few new dealers where there who didn't set up yesterday. The show was a lot less crowded and I was able to have a longer chat with some of the dealers. I also was able to pick up a few more coins. Went through a 3/$1 bin and picked out 30 coins. I usually don't like to pay 33.33 cents each for 'junk box' coins but no one had them for my usual 7/$1.00.

Mac, when it comes to Swiss coins, you are playing in the EPL and I'm in the 4th division.
