OT: Please say a prayer for my dad

Hi everyone. My dad Gilbert has been in the hospital for the past 10 days. After a frantic phone call from my mom tonight, I'm jumping on the first plane tomorrow morning out of Burbank to fly to San Jose. He's scheduled for a liver transplant tomorrow afternoon out of UCSF Medical Center. For the past 10 days, he's gone thru a blood transfusion after getting rid of 5 liters of toxic blood due to liver and kidney failure. He also had a collapsed lung 2 days ago and went thru 2 surgeries to relieve the fluid and blood in his lungs and also to repair a bleeding ulcer. For a herculean man who consumes 5500 calories per day and strong as a horse, he's succumb to barely being able to eat anything and consuming very little fluids as his body is rejecting everything. Right now, my mom is scared; lonely; and frightened. Please say a prayer for Gilbert tonight. Thanks everyone.

You got my prayer and thoughts. I hope your dad pulls through. Stay close to your mom. I know it made a difference for my mom after my dad passed away earlier this year.

My thoughts too are with you and your family. My aunt is the successful recipient of a kidney and pancreas transplant so I have faith that organ transplants can and do work. My best to your dad, Gilbert.
Stay Strong,

(Dad story) I remember when we did a card show in 1990...in the morning we threw baseball...he told me about his days playing and criticizing todays pitching. By the end of the show we came home with a great 500 bucks. Then a car hit us, on my side. I was 9 and he pulled me as we got hit. I would've been hurt bad. But I was sad that all his new money was spent as a deductible to fix his car. I love him.
I said a prayer for you.

Indeed it does. I got it a year ago February. I was playing in a fantastic 5-10 game online when my stepmother called and told me my Dad had tipped over dead at the age of 63. You DO get over it, but it takes a while.
I wish your father all the best, Brian, and hope he has many more great years ahead of him. And kudos to you for flying up to be with your mother. All parents should be so lucky as to have children as committed as you are.

next month will be 5 years since I received that call. It is not something I would wish upon anyone.
Best of luck to you and your family Bryan, keep your head up, your spirits up, and your hopes up.

Wishing you all the best
Sorry for being late with my prayers - just checked in for the first time in a few days.
There's nothing more precious on the universe than having your dad - I pray you have many, many more years to come.
All my best,
Your friend

I know exactly what you are going through. My Dad has been in and out of the hospital since Jan 6 and now we learned that he is basically terminal and the only thing left is just to keep him comfortable.
I am fortunate that I live within 10 miles of my parents and I have been there everyday and you have to be strong for your Mother and help her through this bad time. I have to stay strong for my Mom and my son who are both really having a hard time and I have done well, I just don't let them see me breakdown and so far I have been successful.
I had a super close relationship with my Dad, who was more than a Dad, he was also my best friend and I know I am going to miss him but I also realize that he has suffered enough and deserves to be at peace.
I will say a prayer for you and your family each day when I pray for my Dad.
Best of luck, my friend and remember STAY STRONG.
Bill
My prayers are with you and your family. This is when all of us realize how big our day to day issues really are. From a personal perspective I am glad long ago I stopped putting off doing things with the people I cared about the most.Just wanted to also say I am relatively new to this message board, but I can't believe the helpful insights and generally positve posts here.I believe it is a credit to the people who post here obviously,PSA and in general the sports collecting community. Most of the other message boards I have participated in are filled with whiners,ex-comedians and generally people with way too much time on their hands and not enough brain cells in their heads.
This board is impressive,as once again proven by all the responses to a man who asks members to pray for his father.Best of luck to you Bryan and God bless your family and especially your father.
I too will say a prayer for your father. I hope he comes through this ordeal safely.
Take care. David
Be well and do take care of your mom.
I am hopeful your Dad's transplant will be successful. I understand it is extremely difficult to get a liver in the first place. The fact that he is getting one tells me that his condition is very serious. I lost my mom last year, but my Dad is still kicking at 79. You only get one set of parents - they are very special. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
