Nebraska vs USC...any thoughts?

1966CUDA1966CUDA Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭✭
I dont usually post here, just a casual fan I guess. I grew up in Nebraska so I've been a Husker fan since the early 70's and now live in NY and seem to be the only Husker fan here!! How do you think they will fair against USC this weekend??? I dont really even know the line on the game but am hoping the Huskers can stay in the game. If they win, it should be a big boost in the polls for them.

USC should destroy Nebraska. I'm a USC fan, but don't think my bias plays a role in that assessment.

FSU 2-0....one good team and one cupcake
OU 2-0...one good team and one cupcake

Whats the difference? Oh wait, we will play other teams in the top 10 and you all won't.

Wow!! That's quite a nut to cover for a Bush-less and Leinart-less USC against the improving Huskers. Of course some optimistic Husker fans might narrow that spread by the end of the week.
  • USC wins comfortably. Nebraska is building something that's going to be good, but they don't have the personnel yet to make that offense purr.

Well, growing up there in the '70's I loved Nebraska running the ball. Now that they've switched to a passing game, they haven't seemed to get it yet but looking better. It was nice when they just ran the ball down the other teams throat just daring them to try and stop them...usually Nebraska came out on top!

Last year, USC by 35. This year, probably only by 20.

The same doubters said the same things about USC after Palmer left and some unknown named Leinart was the new QB.

USC is absolutely stacked at every position - they get the cream of the crop from every recruiting class. They will have no problem winning this game, and will do so handily, covering that 20 point spread.

Want to place a sig line bet on that? USC covers, I put any USC-related image in my sig line for a week. USC does not cover, you get Herbie Husker in your sig line for a week.

I doubt if Axtell would make me "suffer" with that in my sigline.

Here's what Axtell would get if he loses:

Sounds like a bet. I'll round up a USC graphic for your signature line.

    Axtell, just wondering...

Did somebody not proclaim last years USC team , before they played Texas, as probably the best college team ever ??

    Also...

Why does UCLA, another major LA team, not get the overall talent like Sothern Cal ??? Even once in awhile ???

They were the best college team ever. Their defense had a bad night, and lost to texas. While texas retained most of their team outside Vince, USC had essentially everyone on offense go pro. And we'll see USC at or near the top of the rankings again, while UT lost AT HOME and their chances of repeating are done.

Better recruiters at USC, and Carroll is a great college coach. He sucked in the pros, but he sure knows how to recruit. Now, with that program dominating, he has the best players coming to HIM.

Axtell, I'm not sure who won the bet -- last I looked, the line was 18 and the final score was 28-10. Looks like a push, but if anyone can confirm, let me know.

Frankly, even if I "won" the bet I don't give a crap since Nebraska semi-sucked -- why did they keep running (and getting shut down) when they were gaining on USC when they passed? Appeared to be lousy play calling on NU's side -- yeah, they would have needed breaks (turnovers) to have a chance to win, but it still should have been more competitive image

No one is happy in the Husker nation with the play calling of that game. NU looked like a different team than the one that beat Michigan in the bowl, and the first 2 games of this year. West Coast offense? It looked like Frank Solich was calling the plays again. image It looked like they were playing not to lose by too mcuh rather than playing to win. When they passed it worked, it beats me why they didn't pass more. When asked at the post game press conference why they tried the run so often, Callahan responded sarcastically, "We're Nebraska, we're supposed to run the ball." Unbelievable.image

Don't kid yourself... UCLA has a pretty good Football tradition dating back into the 1940's... they have had their share of National Contenders and great coaches. Red Sanders, Tommy Prothro, Pepper Rogers and Terry Donohue
