Japan 'Hello Kitty' Issue - Question

Hi,

I was looking through the latest issue of the Numismatist and my daughter noticed on page 37 a 2004 Japan Mint issue of commems for 'Hello Kitty' 30th Anniversary. And she immediately wanted one for her collection. Any idea of 1) Where I could find some of these and 2) About how much they go for? I found a set on eBay and the seller looks OK but they are from Asia (and since I spend most time over on the lightside forum am a bit leery of Int'l sellers from that area) and also a single coin would be OK vs. a whole set.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Try pm'ing JamminJ, or check his ebay listings (none right now). (He seems to have a thing for these imageimageimage)

Oh, and try Danglen (Danglen on ebay) or his website Black Mountain Coins

oops, I was thinking the euro coins....here is a mint set for sale on ebay:Linkage. I don't know this seller. I'm not too sure of the feedback, but the bad ones seem to be old news. This online seller Downies has been around awhile, but I generally feel like they are after top dollar. Their ebay id is usebid and the prices can be better.

  • EBay seller Takas-Japan has had the Hello Kitty coins from time to time. He's high on my list of favorite sellers and when I sometimes contact him about something I need, he generally replies very quickly. image

Indeed I do have a thing for Helly Kitty!

Excepting my personal HK collection, I only have one French one left:

I bought a bunch of them to to assure that at least one of each type slabbed with a high grade and have been selling off the undergrades. I'm interested in the gold coins of this set, but you say Japan also makes Kitty coins, hmmmm....

  • Hey JamminJ that is great coin but I recall you saying this...

Sorry couldn't resist! When I was in Japan one of the first things I learned is that Hello Kitty has remanied very popular over the years. There was even a limited edition car (sort of like the Eddie Bauer). Daihatsu. I found a link to a new one now too

I'll make sure my daughters never see them. I collect enough modern crap for the whole family.
