1980's Hockey Unopened. How rare?

All the talk on here lately has got me thinking how rare is unopen hockey up to 1988-89? O-Pee-Chee is almost unseen for some years unopened and even Topps is tough for some. Was it lack of interest during production that kept it low to begin with? If anyone could share some insights it would be appreciated.

  • Well since before the late 80s and early 90s Hockey was primarily a sport played in Northern cities and Canada the interest for the cards was not nationwide, but when teams started moving south and the smaller leagues began popping up the demand increased for the cards.

This was magnified by the Card Boom of the early 1990s. Now the demand for these 80s sets has increased making these cards very hard to find.
  • While I wouldn't classify 80's unopened as rare it can demand decent money

I would put them into three categories as mass produced

    tougber to find >>> 80-81 , 81-82 , 85-86 ,86-87

    higer production >>> 87-88 , 88-89

overproduced >>> 82-83 , 83-84 , 84-85 all these boxes could of been picked up for $3.00 a box up until the Yzerman rookied took off in 89. The actually dumped some of this product in local dumps around the plant . These years still command good money nowadays
