Feeling like I'm 10 years old today

I'm headed to a minor league ball game later today (Madison Mallards in Wisconsin). They're going to have the following ex-players there to sign autos! Minnie Minoso, Jim Gatner, Bill "Spaceman" Lee, Dave Kingman, Vida Blue, Goose Gossage, and others! WooHoo!!!!!!!!!!! I've never attended anything with an opportunity to get live autos. I'm so excited that I took the day off to gather my old cards of these players to get signed. Took me forever to find a Bill Lee. I've also got a nice '53 Bowman of Minnie to get signed.

I was at one of the Mallards minor league games last year when I visited. It's very nice, especially with the radar gun pitching game and just the "stadium" itself. Hope you have a fun time there, I know I did,

Nothing like a minor league game. I get to around 5 or 6 Long Island Ducks games a year. They have Juan Gonzalez now but I havnt seen him play in person yet. There are so many activities geared towards family and children. Giveaways each inning, kids on the field, the mascots, etc. For $12 you cant get a bad seat.

Its nice when the minor league teams do this. A few years ago, the Richmond Braves had Ernie Banks in to sign for ESPN Classic. They even provided photos. The Banks photo that I mailed to him to sign 8 years ago has still not surfaced.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

When did Madison lose the Black Wolf? They were a Northern League team for a few years in the mid to late 90's.

Are the Mallards actually "minor league" or are they independent (as were the Black Wolf)?

Minnie didn't make it, but they had Harmon Killebrew. It turned out to be an "allstar" exhibition game - with Madison Mallard alumni and some of the retired players. Bill Lee can still pitch!! He's a cool guy.

The Black Wolf folded several years ago. The Mallards are part of the Northwoods league for top college players with NCAA eligibility.

I love going to minor league games. Much more personal, a helluvalot cheaper, and it honestly seems to me the players give more out on the field. They are playing for a chance at the big time, ya know?

Nice to see Gantner's auto hasn't changed at all since I collected when he was playing in the 80s. He always got my vote for neatest autograph. He'd sign while walking and have it come out like someone in a penmanship class. Nice work on all of them!

Killebrew was a nice switch! He has one of the nicest sigs in baseball IMO.

Yeah, Killebrew is a real gentleman. Jay Johnstone was great too. It was a neat experience.
