People are stupid.

I have a card of a hot Marlins pitching prospect in BGS 9.5, a PSA 9 just went off at $200+, so I have a BIN of $499 on mine and a minimum bid of $99.

Bidder emails me -- what do you want for the card?

If there's a BIN of $499, what in the bloody hell do you think I want for the card?!

My guess is that all the above average common sense people are the smart ones that think this is a silly hobby.

Hmmmm......I suspect the potential buyer simply wanted to know what was the least you would want for the card. How that can be construed as being stupid is beyond me. Just because a seller asks 499.00 for a card does not always mean that is what he will take for it.

With a starting bid at 20% of the BIN I do not see how asking what is the lowest you will take for this card is out of line. It could sell for the 99.00 starting bid and thus that also is an amount that you appear to be happy with. I think the buyer (IMO) was looking for a price somewhere in between.

Rich - I'm convinced that there are a number of people who erroneously think their point is stronger when they same the same thing twice.

Unless you explicitly state you want $499 for this in your description, you're going to get inquiries. Calling people stupid is mature. Or maybe charging double for a BGS vs. PSA can also be contrued as stupid. Oh, I forgot it's a BGS 9.5. They're rare now, right?

If I were a seller with a MB of $99 on a card and a BIN of $499, I would probably be very happy to walk away with $250- for the card....

if he truly said "what do you want for the card?", then of course the guys question shouldve been worded differently..

if i were at a show and someone had something priced, i wouldnt ask "what do you want for it?" -- they would probably ask me if i needed glasses or if i was illiterate.. i would ask them if they were negotiable, or what the least they'd take for it would be..

yes it was a stupid question.. but it was an attempt to start negotiations.. probably didnt warrant a thread, but i dont care..

"People are stupid." = old news to me..

regardless, hopefully you answered him intelligently, and just be able to see through his stupid question.. reply to him with something like "well, of course i'd like to get $499 for the card, but i'd be willing to listen to an offer." -- then see what he has to say about that..
