I Got All the Way to Work Yesterday and Found Out I Wasn't Wearing my Pants!

That's right - I walk in and one of my assistants yelps: "you have no pants on!"

If you believe that,

You can believe that Ben Roethlisberger "forgot" to wear his helmet the day of his accident. That's what he told Jim Rome in his first interview since that ill fated day.

But I like him, think he's a great quarterback and he looks great.

I don't even know if I have any of his RC's?

It is possible he forgot. I bicycle a lot, and once in awhile I forget to put my helmet on. I used to waterski, too, and now and then I would forget my life vest. It's really bad luck, though, to forget on the day you get into a wreck.

Can't say I ever forgot my pants, but I have made it to the garage with my slippers on.

I know I was being a bit facetious with this and just having some fun.

I don't ride - but ya know - my instinct tells me the 'motorized' vehicle thing is a bit different - when you sit on the bike - you have to put a key in the ignition and start it up - then either habit kicks in and you consciously or unconsciously go thru your checklist unless something totally disrupts that train of thought.

Plus, most people wear the helmet that protects the face - you would almost feel naked without it on?

I've forgotten to comb my hair, or to put deodorant on even...but I never "forgot" to wear my helmet. I either chose to wear it, or not wear it. Usually on really hot days, for quick ride down to the lake, I didn't wear it. If I was going out all day, I'd strap it on the back for the night ride. I chose to not wear it...and my mother, the Emergency Room nurse, used to chew my a$$ for it every time she saw me. image

I don't ride motorcycles, either, but I'm amazed at what I forget now and then, so I wouldn't be shocked if someone who normally wears a helmet told me he forgot to put it on one day. As you say, your mental checklist can get disrupted, and that's when you forget to do what you normally do.

I don't believe Ben, either, but in my non-motorcycle-riding ignorance, I'd guess it's possible to forget your helmet.

I obviously know you were kidding, but wow, that really confused me image
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

maybe he forgot to wear the motorcycle helmet b/c he got hit so much while he was wearing his Steeler helmet

It's just like forgetting to put on your seatbelt. You know it's not on and just too lazy click it.

When Ben started to ride off, you mean to tell me that he didn't notice a slight breeze going through his hair? Please...

    Exactly.

But, I will give him credit - he's in a really good spin control mode...

He wasn't defensive or adamant about what happened - he didn't fall back on the - "I can do what I want" thing.

This isn't about absolute freedom - I want to believe he's realizing he has to protect an asset - his career.

It's like - imagine you had a 52T Mantle PSA 8 - would you keep it in your ass pocket everyday while riding your motorcycle to work?

  • I don't ride a motorcycle but I do have a polaris 4-wheeler and I never wear a helmet. On a side note, I'm not sure why in Minnesota a person driving a car is required to wear a seat belt (I'll only wear mine in very bad weather), but a person on a motorcycle isn't required to wear a helmet. As far as I'm concerned, both should be optional.

  • He did not forget to wear a helmet. In an interview conducted prior to the accident he clearly stated that since it was not law, he was not going to wear it. It is that simple. He took a chance and almost got killed.

Anyone ever put their helmet on then jump in their car and go? Just a question...I admit to nothing....image
  • Anyone ever put their seat belt on only after a cop was in progress of pulling you over for speeding and when the cop questioned you about not wearing a seat belt you tell him that he must obviously be confused?

EDIT** I almost forgot......I admit to nothing!

I saw, or read about, that interview. It was a conscious decision, I believe, not to wear the helmet. You're foolish not to around a city with too many flakes driving around talking on cell phones...

    Stone,

I'd love to know where you learned to dance like that. There's an adult entertainment facility nearby that could use some of your techniques!

  • just got back from a ride, and remembered my helmet...my question for the guys in states w/o a helmet law - you still have to wear eye protection, right? I can't see a damn thing unless I wear a full face helmet or goggles - even w/ sunglasses my eyes fill with tears...

seems crazy to me to go helmetless AND blind - wonder what big ben had on that day....
