I have a rough raw one if you want one to look at while you're waiting. I thought I had a nicer one, I'll take a look.

Thanks for showing - that doesn't look too bad. I'll take it if there isn't a crease. Do you collect the 1987 set? I'm curious because I'm looking to buy a case and split it. I already have someone in for 3 boxes and I'll take 2 or 3 (the ones w/ Marino on the bottom of course...).

how much would a these run per box? I might be interested purely for some fun for me and my 8 year old son.

I'm assuming there are some cards that year worth submitting to PSA?

    thanks

    Goose,

1987 wax boxes run b/t $30 and $40 a box. They are fun to open and have quite a few HOFers and rc of Gary Zimmerman, Flutie, Cunningham, Kim Jelly (pun intended) plus 2nd year cards of Jerry Rice, Reggie White, Bruce Smith, ect... Let me know if you're interested.

    Greg,

I'd probably take one just for the heck of it.

it'd give me and the boy something to do some evening.

    edited to add....

I'm confused.....do you have another thread for another year of cards?
    what are they? price?

    I'll decide which one then!

    Greg,

Let me know if you ever get an '85 case going. I wouldn't mind picking up a few more boxes of those.

    Mike

PS - Also, if you don't get enough guys in for the '87 case ... you can put me down for two boxes to help get you there.

Take it from somebody who has submitted around 15 box bottoms. I have never got one in a holder? Notice no black line on the top and right side of the Marino card ? Well PSA will reject it every time because its not cut outside the black line thats not there in the first place. I have spent hours cutting them , you can try but untill PSA realizes that the black lines are cut lines you will have a hard time getting them into holders.I had a 90 Topps Ryan that I cut 1/32 around the no black line right and top and it was rejected?

  • Greg,

Having gone through dozens of box bottoms from both years in search of my Paytons, it will EXTREMELY difficult to find these in the grades you're looking for. As you know, creases, scuffs, marks, etc. abound. Only 2 ever from each set have ever graded above a 6. Good luck. So far, only Payton and 1 Montana (PSA 3-4) from the 1985 Topps Box Bottoms have been graded, and only Payton and 1 Rice from 1987. My best advice is to try to pick up a box or two that are cellophane wrapped, if you can find them. I know some 1987 boxes have come that way.

    Jack,

I've submitted a handful from both years that have successfully been graded, although some have been rejected. I've only found an issue IRT the dimensions of the cards, not with the black lines.

Thanks for your reply guys. I already have PSA 8 1989 and 1990 box bottom Marino's - both of which I personally cut. I'm not worried about the black lines either - I think PSA has become a little more lenient as long as the dimension is correct.
