squeezing every opportunity out of that Mickey Mantle estate signing...can't wait for the Mick in the star wars and garbage pail kids sets...or maybe they have Mickey in wrestling tights and we'll see him in the WWE sets...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Maybe when they run out of celebrities to put on sport cards ie. C. Electra, they will put non celebrity fans of the game on cards. ie you and me. Just wait we will all get our turn.

Wasn't there a Sportflics card that had some random 8-year old kid on it, as a celebration of fans or some attendance record? That was the strangest card I had seen at that time. Well, along with the 1976 Kurt Bevacqua Bubble Gum Blowing Champ card.....
I broke one booster box of 2006 Topps and averaged more than one Mantle per pack. I also got a few decalration of independence base cards. We're getting to the point where only half the cards made are actual current players of that particular sport.
The sad thing about it is that this line really did not need to use the Mick or any other celebs because it is kicking butt with the Autograph Fan Favorites inserts of past players the majority of which only real Basketball junkies would even know. The EBAY sales on these cards are brisk and expensive for these players and it appears Topps has hit a cord with collectors. They should try this strategy in their Baseball/Football issues.
That basketball set is one of the first I have really enjoyed ripping in a long time. Easy to pull autos and of players that were great but never got the recognition they deserved makes this a fun rip.
Next thing you know they're gonna make a card with Jordan playing baseball......Oh wait, that really happened. I am not a fan. Let Deion and Bo and real 2 sport athletes have cards in 2 sports. If you are gonna do this, at least make it funny, like John Daily as a Jockey, or Daniel Negranue (poker player) in a football uniform.

I don't know if this is correct...just my opinion...but they may have done this because Mantle had a 52 Topps rc and because he was a sort of all-american boy...and they gave him the all-american look with the Hoosiers style card.

They have signed enough stuff for everyone in the free and not so free world to have a copy of their sig.
But I can't blame Topps for giving people what they want?

<< <i>The "regular" (white) refractor is a much more attractive card... I happened to pull one from a one-pack retail sample
One thing I can't figure out...did Topps have that goofy basketball photo in its archives, or did they just Photoshop the card?
