1957 Topps Uncut Sheet of 20 Cards?

Anyone have any idea what this is all about?

Looks interesting. I'm not familiar with sheets of 20 cards, I thought they were all 132 card sheets.

Here's a photo:

  • This could be a section cut from one of the sheets from Alan Rosen's big "find". I think there were between 80-100 full sheets and they all had varying degrees of damage from being nailed from a house in Philadelphia. I thought they were all from the first series though because if I remember correctly they were all the Mantle sheet.........

I remember reading about it in SCD a few years ago. If I remember correctly they were found under the floor boards in a kitchen. Why can't I have a "find" of any sort.

Another find that always disgusted me was 1000s of vintage wire photos. A dealer I knew whn I was in Philly bought them from a construction worker. Seems they were gutting an old office building that happened to be the old Philadelphia Bulletin office. Well there were 5 or so file cabinets full to the gills with wire photos. The general contractor told the worker he could "have that junk for free."

I desperately cling to the hope that this will happen to me some day!

I actually have one of 'those' from the house find. It's a 9 card sheet. It has a small trear and a nail hole - but it's still a great collectable. I think I picked it up for like 15 bucks or so at a card show in PA. Must have been 12 or more years ago. I'll scan it and post the pic.
  • cut 'em up and send it into BVG

Lots of these floating around. Lelands had a bunch at the National, 16 card panels or so. They were really cheap, and I've seen some bigger sections as well.

This is the 9 card sheet I have. Too bad about the tear and nail hole. A few creases on the left are probably from getting walked on for many years. To think if you had this under your kitchen floor? 4 of the 9 would grade out incredibly well if professionally (and accurately) cut from the sheet.

Cool! That one's had a lot of love!

I believe these things were hacked up in the printing shop and "back-doored" to some degree but if anyone has the 1989 Topps Guernsey catalog - I'm willing to be there were a ton of these things auctioned.

Topps saved a boatload of this stuff.

And since they're two sided, my guess is they were part of the "production" cycle? Since what I've seen of stuff I have bought at the Toppsvault - proofs tend to be blank backed.

This is all just talk and I don't know anything for sure.
