Coin "addict" sent to prison

Convicted of stealing money to support his coin collecting addiction.
The head of the insolvency department at a law firm was jailed for a year yesterday after stealing more than £66,000 to buy Roman coins.
Richard Samuels, 45, an accountant, was described as a Walter Mitty character addicted to coin collecting. He raided his employers' accounts over two years, siphoning money into the bank account of a phantom legal firm.
Samuels, from Seaford, East Sussex, began stealing from Cornfield Law, in Eastbourne, in 2002 after he reached the limits of the "numerous" credit cards he had obtained to buy coins.
He admitted 13 counts of forgery at an earlier hearing at Hove Crown Court. The court was told that he had paid back what he had stolen, partly by raising £41,000 from the sale of his coin collection.
Judge David Rennie told him he had "a predisposition to obsessive traits".
