GOETZ: K-80 "The Spring" (with naked lady)

K-80 The Spring (issue of water from earth), prior to 1904, Incuse Reverse cast bronze, 228mm. RRRR (one of two in existence).

A early composition in Goetz’s “Jugendstil” (youth style) done during his Paris Period in 1900-1904.

A very naked young woman leisurely dips a hand of water from the spring located on the edge of the forest. In the background a young shepherdess tends her flock of sheep with the German Alps as a back-drop. Ornate Ginkgo leaves and vines form the perimeter.

Nice! So this is one of his earliest works? It's interesting to see his beginnings and how he developed as an artist and satirist.

Much different than his later stuff. The first thing I noticed were the hands, much more proportionate than usual. I'm sure ya'll were noticing something else though imageimageimage.

    "one of two in existence"

Really nice, any clue why only two were produced?

He was a student/apprentice at the time. I think it was more a study piece than anything. Someone must have liked it and he cast another for them....just a WAG at this point in time though...

I also picked up 12 of his other early study pieces (all small) that he had done....just haven't had time to image them yet.

Also got his personal Petschaft...a handled wax-sealer tool that he had made. image

Did you stutter on the size of that medal or is it really 228mm? image

An amazing piece that is definitely done in the style of the day. image

    one of two

Umm, I'd say "two of two."

What a humongous piece. It doesn't look like your typical Goetz.
