Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Rookie

Hey Guys, I just wanted to introduce myself since I've decided to step into the box and do some occasional posting. My name is Brian, I'm 27, and I am a cardaholic. My dad used to buy me 1983 topps/fleer packs everyday as a child and ever since I've been hooked. My sickness has been narrowed to 1968 baseball in nm-mt or better, but I will collect pretty much anything. My favorite player is Brian Downing (Angels), and my teams are the Angels, Lakers, LA Kings, Rams, and UCLA. I love reading the boards because I always seeem to learn something and there is always someone on here who I am in awe of. Knuckles is an absolute artist, Stone is hilarious, and everyone is at the very least entertaining, so I hope I don't make a fool of myself on here, but I am humbled to be in the presence of such genious. Be gentle. --Brian

    Hi Brian

    Welcome!

I like your choice of set - I inferred nongraded?

You used to have the Raiders for a bit but that's for another Ricky Lake Show.

Good luck on your 68T set.

Hope you don't get swept up in the torrential waters of ebay. We do have a superb 9.5 Step Program tho.

You will meet a great bunch of people to help you out.

And if interested, I have the finest Wayne Newton Snow Globe collection on the planet! image

    So don't be a stranger.

ctsoxfan, Stone, and Overrated - thank you for the warm welcome.

    Overrated - who isn't a 52 Mantle fan?

Stone - As far as the 68 set, it's a healthy mix of raw and PSA. I started it out raw with about 350-400 cards that would be roughly 85% PSA 8, 12% PSA 9, 3% PSA 10 (if I'm lucky). I really cherry picked the heck out of this set to the point of forcing me to take a break from it for a few years, but I really think the raw cards are nicer than most of my PSA 8's. I'll still pick up the occasional raw if the price is right, but since most commons in PSA 8 can be picked up just over the price of grading, it makes sense to just buy them slabbed. Either way, if I ever need another break, I figure I can now venture into the snow globe world with my newly acquainted friend.image

Since you're apparently a Gooner, I'll forgive your allegiance to UCLA. Welcome!

And if you're up for a fantasy World Cup league, lemme know and I can e-mail you an invite.

The only way to recover is not via a 9.5 step process, but a 10 step process !image
