Interesting to see that you are selling to put a Hemi in your roadrunner. I sold my roadrunner conv. (383) in 2001 to make way for gold coins as I no longer had time for both hobbies and I was scared about the car prices falling. Boy was I out to lunch. And the new owner (a Dallas attorney) put a Hemi in the car once he got it. Hemi rags are always fun.....just not as fast as the HT's.

    TTT.

I keep changing my mind about the Hemi- do I keep it original and keep the 360 4-barrel or do I go with the big motor? Today I am thinking of keeping the orignal motor and just doing a few internal mods for more power and keep the outside looking totally stock. image

Pull the original and put it on the stand wrapped in plastic.

    Run the HEMI.........image

I know a Hemi has that coolness factorimage. Or I could do a compromise and do a 440-6 pack.

360-4...so that must be a mid-70's RR. The hemi's are a bit cantankerous while the 440-6's require a little less TLC (except the carbs). I had a 1970 440-6 Challenger RT and was shocked at the bottom end torque. Off the line the Hemi with factory stock specs was not as quick as the 440-6. So for street use the 440-6 is an overall better choice, better mileage, and just as much noise.....of course you won't get the wow factor compared to the elephant.
I had many nice highway cruises with my 440-6 and 3.23 gears.
But under full throttle it was a brute. I drove my friend's 68 Hemi GTX rag one time and it just didn't have the low end for my kind of cruising. Hemi's love to be at >3000 rpm all the time...while the 440's do just great at >2000 rpm....and save you $5000 on the engine swap. I haven't kept up with hemi prices but even rebuilt used ones must now fetch $10K fully assembled. And good luck trying to find all the misc parts for a vintage one. The crate motors were $13K 5+ years ago. Can only guess what they are today.

The 440 was offered in the RR up to around 1974 I think so it fits better with the car. Sadly, hemi's ended in 1971.

Yes- it's a 74 and is yellow with a black stripe- like Daisey Duke had in the first episode. I bought it because I thought it would be a cool tow vehicle for my other car to go to the strip with but I think I might be getting carried away with my plans a littleimage. I think maybe I should just stick with the 360 and stroke it to a 408 to get sme more torque for pulling.
