New VAMs!

Well, I got my first box of 20 new VAM candidates back from Leroy Van Allen. Six made the cut as new designations, five R-5 and one R-4. A couple older descriptions were updated. One very exciting one is the new 1935-S VAM-6 - a third C reverse identified. For clashed die afficianados, there is the 1879-O VAM-27A and a bizarre clash on the new 1880-P VAM-1E. Another box is in transit.

Cool VAMs! I really like the 1878 VAM-13 die scratch. If you ever score a second, I'm interested!

If you have likely new varieties that would qualify as new VAMs, Leroy will examine them. Naturally, the postage to and from would have to be paid and something for his trouble. I doubt he would want to be buried in attribution requests. There are plenty on here who can assist there or even prescreen for you before you go through the trouble to send a coin off. Details are at ashmore.com or rjrc.com or both of them, I forget.

<< <i>Congrats! I think my fave is the 96-O VAM 10A. >>
The great thing on that one is that it is also my PCGS 62PL. Being a discovery coin too will make for an interesting lot when they eventually auction my collection. The 80-P is also a finest known DMPL for the date.

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
<< <i>John: What type of magnification do you use to look at the coin when you are searching for varieties? I use my 10X loupe when I look over a coin, but my eyes get tired very quickly. I was thinking of trying to obtain the type of magnifyers my Dentist wears. What works for you? Great job on finding the new varieties, you are keeping Leroy very busy these days. >>
My everyday one is a Honus 20X (#3013) but I also use a 50X wide view aspheric loupe. Surprisingly a loupe I picked up at Radio Shack on clearance a couple years back is pretty good. I do need to use a pro one like is discussed on here often. I get eye fatigue a lot and my dominant attribution eye's prescription changed more than the other over the past few years.
