I like Rebublic Rare coin in downtown old Scottsdale. Ron is the owner and a nice guy but not super chatty and I've only bought a couple of items as his prices are very high, high overhead in that area. The best store in this whole valley closed four yrs ago. What do you collect?

I'm collecting Large Cents (trying to get VF or better mid dates and Coronets); upgrading my IHC collection to XF/AU; and I've most recently been working on a date/MM collection of Morgan Dollars. Thanks for the info...Leo

I grew up in Glendale, and although I doubt it's still there (We're talking 80's/early 90's), the closest thing I had to my house was up around (can't remember if it was 51st Ave or 43rd Ave) and Northern. I don't even remember the name, but it was in a little strip mall that had both a coin shop and a pawn shop within walking/biking distance of home.

The other place I went to was in the plaza/area of Pistol Pete's Pizza, on maybe 43rd ave and Dunlap/Olive. Again, don't remember the name, but that's where I bought all my Whitman albums in the early 80's.

Probably not a lot of help, but you seem to be lacking opinions of the Phoenix Area.

Try Eagle Eye, I think they are in Tucson, but they also have a website, and Rick Snow is known for his large cents expertise.

That's it. Now that I think about it, the hardware store O'Malley's was on the 51st Ave intersection and a flower shop. The coin store was down around the 43rd intersection or so, so I'm sure we're thinking of the same place. They were always friendly to me when I was 12-16ish or so. Wish I remember them a bit more, but that was 20-some years ago.

I went back there about 2 years ago to visit my Mom and wanted to stop in, but just didn't have time visiting with old friends and family (Hadn't been back there in about 10 years - those Air Force years kind of got in the way).

Hey - I'm from Glendale as well. Go Apollo Hawks!

I've also been to C & C Coin and Stamp on 24th Street and Osborn - not bad. B J's on Bell Road is good if you know what you want to look at because most of their raw stuff is boxed. I don't much care for Republic Rare Coin in Scottsdale. But I do like Valley Coin in North Scottsdale.

I hate the coin shop options in Phoenix. I also collect comics, and the selection of comic shops suck too. Come to think of it, there's not much to do in Phoenix. And it's too hot! Why do I live here, again?

I went to Valley Coins a few weeks ago. Another one of those shops where you have to know what you want, because everything's put away. I'm sorry, but that's not how I shop. I'm not going to be asking to see this and that all day. I like to browse. So I walked in, and he doesn't greet me at all. No "Hi," no "How's it' going". Nothing. I asked him if he had any slabbed Peace Dollars. His response was, "Just common ones," and just sat there. I was kind of dumbfounded, thinking, "OK....is that a yes or no?" I felt like I was bothering him, so I just said OK and left. I hate how some coin dealers make you feel uncomfortable.

I went to The Coin Gallery (in Glendale?) that day too. I liked it. They had lots of stuff out, and were very helpful. I did ask them to get out what Peace Dollars they had in the back, and they were real cool about it. Many people shopping and many people working, so I didn't feel like I was on the spot. I'm anxious to try out some of the others mentioned in this thread.
