I think it should be the player who makes the most difference to a SUCCESSFUL team. Not just a great player where it doesn't matter because the team is not even in the race. Maybe Nowitski?

They lose their most dynamic scorer in Stoudamire, most of their starters are new, and he's having a better season offensively than he did last year, and the Suns are rolling.
The only other candidate I would seriously consider as viable would be Chauncy Billups. Nash has better numbers, Billups has a better team.
Billups is a great second choice, but with the Pistons you are talking about a team that might still roll on without him. Take Nash from the Suns, and it could get ugly. Elton Brand should get a vote or two, as well.

Is there a more overrated, worse player in the league than that bum? The whole Knicks team is a joke, and Isiah Thomas will make sure it remains so for the next 5 years.
Hey Dan, how about Kidd for MVP? I forgot about him - the Nets really go as far as he takes them.
I hate the Knicks but it is sureal to see what has become of that franchise. They have so many problems with salaries that they have NO SHOT at being a decent team for at least 5 years. Stephon Marbury is just the cherry on top of the DEBACLE that they have become.

<< <i>Kobe Bryant. The Lakers might win 10 games without him. >>
As much as I hate to admit it, I think Kobe is MVP. With Kobe, they win 45 and make the playoffs. Without him, they are worse than the Knicks.
The Cavs do not make the playoffs without LeBron, but I think they win more games.
MVP means - MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. I think Kobe is pretty valuable.
Shane
First, he doesn't make anyone on his team better. Second, his off the court issues will lose him votes. He's had a good year, and because the team would be much worse off without him, he gets it? How much would Cleveland suffer without Lebron, or Phoenix without Nash (who lost Stoudamire)?
I take into consideration the players Phoenix lost (Stoudemire, Richardson, Johnson) and those they gained (Diaw, Bell and House). And I see that the players they gained had career years. I don't think that is just a coincidence.
I agree that if you took Kobe and LeBron off of their teams that they would be lucky to win 20 games, but the same can be said about Nash.
My bottom line is he's a great player who makes his teammates better.

I think this is what makes Nash so much more valuable than Kobe. Kobe doesn't lift his team like Nash does, or Jordan did. Kobe doesn't get the most out of his teammates, he just wants his 40 points a night.
I think Nash takes it again.
