BACK FROM THE ANA: A few thoughts and some photos

First I had a great time with the other members of the Darkside who were able to make it, it is always fun to spend time with members of this august forum.

There were very few quality Darkside coins avaliable at this show. Several major world dealers were not there and those who were seem to have trouble keeping quality coins in inventory. One of the main things I was looking for was BU British copper, Steve Damron had a few examples and there were one or two notible coins salted elsewhere on the floor, but copper was in short supply. I was able to add several nice Conder tokens to my collection, but this was due more to timing and talking to the right people than there being a large supply on the market.

I will post photos of some of what I bought in a new thread a little later. Until then, I am sure the others will be along to add their thoughts soon!image

Nice to see the guys and gal. In attendance were myself and wife, spinaker2000, rhound, and aethelred with his wife who both came Saturday afternoon.

As alluded to, there were very few World coin dealers on the bourse. The few that were there had big crowds around their tables. One World dealer's table was so crowded that it took until Saturday afternoon until I could get to his table to look closely at his items.

I must admit one of the highlights of the show, other than seeing the aformentioned members, was meeting Cameron Keifer. We saw him at dinner on Thursday night, showed him how to gamble at the Casino Night Friday night, and talk to him a few times at the show. A very nice young man. Friendly and knowledgable also. I have not been impressed recently with ICG, they haven't answered two of my recent enquiries, but Cameron is tops in my book. The boy is going to go far in the Coin Biz.

  • I agree with the "ole dead one" and "the shroom", But as shows go, this one was OK. New stuff showed up every day. I upgraded a few old head Victoria 1/2ds, snagged some old Carribean coppers, found a nice big 1837-1897 Victoria medal in the orginal box. Plus, this morning picked up a 1954 SA proof set. image
As always, it's great to get together with the "gang". We had great food and plenty of beverages!!image
Met Cameron K. , Tassa, and Andy Lustig, (who has some primo material, way outta my league but nice to see and drool over.) Pics of my purchases to come later, my daughter has hijacked my camera!!

  • Glad you had fun & thanks for sharing the photos.
  • I too enjoyed the comradery and reunion to see some folks I hadn't in a while, and agree with Ajaan that Cameron is a nice guy who will go far with his
talents and knowledge in the Coin Biz. World coin representation was thin, and Steve Damron saved my day, I did fill one hole in my GB set and a couple
of upgrades as well. I also filled about a dozen holes in my GB colonies, territories etc. set as well. Also picked up a couple of lookers and some other
goodies. I also got some nice coppers from Spinaker.

All in all still a great time, the company made up for the lack of World Coins. I will post some NEWPS pictures later on. We did Casino night which was
fun even though it was with play money image

I look forward to the next rendevous, and maybe meeting some more Darkside folks on the next one. image

nice pictures Aethelred... I really like the Victorian shilling among others posted. I think that Dimitri is on to something... it would be fun to have a darkside reunion at one the the shows... it is something to consider.
