Hi Roger Clemens collectors.
I was looking at all of the cards lsted for the basic set and many of them do not seem so basic.
1985 Star Sticker
1988 Starting Lineup
1987 Fleer Limited Edition.
etc, etc, etc...
Anyone else interested in determining what the definition of Basic is for our set? The Nolan Ryan set is awesome because parameters have been established and everyone knows what Basic and Master are. Please share any thoughts on the subject.

"The modern basic sets will include all cards defined as a "Main Set" cards, but will not include cards from Parallel Sets, Insert Sets, or Parallel/Inserts Sets. Special cards and league leader cards will not be included."
You should email BJ and have those cards removed from the set.
I still like my idea of a collectors set where you can add anything you like and put them in the order you want them veiwed and have more than one of a certain card. No weights/completion just collecting a player for fun and it doesn't matter what year or if its basic / master or a team card or an autographed card?
It would look something like this
Nolan Ryan Basic set

Is that the Fleer sticker?
I agree these cards should be booted, along with the 89 Leaf that they didn't even make.

There is some aggressive buyers out there that don't even use the registy and I'm tired of paying $20 to $30 on 98 Bowman Chrome 10's and such.
I'll send some in and hope for the best.
Good luck and have fun with it. Your well on your way.

"There are actually more cards in the basic set listed! DOH!"
Now that is funny.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Yeah, Puckett and Clemens both had Star Stickers issued that year by Fleer.
I don't have a Clemens basic set registered, but I agree with you that Star Stickers, Limited Editions, and Starting Lineup cards don't belong in the basic sets for any player. There's a lot of debate about which cards should and shouldn't be allowed in the basic set, and it seems to me like it's just going to come down to whether or not we the public can agree on what to add to each set because PSA seems to allow us to add whatever someone wants to.
<< <i>I started a Clemens Master Set, but I'm only collecting cards from when he was with the Red Sox. I always thought that would make a cool sort of subset. >>
That's what I'd like to do as well - "basic", Red Sox cards only. It would be nice if the basic set was a little more reasonable.
<< <i>A "Roger Clemens Topps" set has been entered as a set request. He has a nice run of Topps cards. >>
I for one am hoping that this set is a "basic" Topps set (like the Montana basic Topps set) rather than one that ends up including all his Topps AS and other cards - basically a one per year set...
