Topps To Include ‘Pieces of Mickey’ In Series Two
By PR Newswire

NEW YORK, Apr 1, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- The Topps Company is pleased to announce that it has given card collectors exactly what they feel they want—they have taken the chase card craze to the next level. Inserted in 2006 Baseball Series Two will be cards with an actual piece of a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card.
The Topps Company purchased a 1952 #311 Mickey Mantle graded PSA 9 in an unpublicized deal. The card was considered one of the finest specimens remaining in the world and became a natural choice to cut up into tiny squares and create special cards for the 2006 Series Two. Mantle's trading cards have become some of the most sought after collectible items in the industry.
"We are very excited to have the estate of Mickey Mantle under the Topps brand and felt it was fitting for card collectors to chase after pieces of Mickey. A Mickey Mantle card is considered by many to be the pinnacle of any collection. Many of our collectors can’t afford a Mickey Mantle card, let alone the famous 1952 #311. This is our way of bringing collectors closer to owning a Mickey!" said Warren Friss, Topps Vice President. "I mean, hell, we screwed up, wink wink and added cutouts of Alex Gordon to the Series One in wax packs. Did you see what collectors were paying for that card with a big hole in it?! Just think of what a piece of a 1952 Mickey might fetch on Ebay!"
"Topps made a major commitment to it’s customers and is dedicated to developing high quality trading card products," said Friss. “We cut the internet dumpers so that we could sell more of this crap, err I mean high quality product in the mecca of cardboard--Wal-Mart. I can’t wait for the first Mickey piece to be found!”
Founded in 1938 as Topps Chewing Gum, Topps issued its first baseball cards in 1951 and is an international marketer of entertainment products, principally candy, collectible trading cards and sticker album collections. Topps Internet business includes Topps.com, eTopps.com, TheToppsVault.com and the Pit.com.

Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Is this an April fool?
I got a good one - if they ever focus in on Ted Williams - they could make cards with actual pieces of Ted's head that has been frozen!
Slicing and dicing pieces of history...whose idea was this anyway?
