<< <i>The enite 1987 Twins team. The Tigers should have won the Series that year. >>
FYS,
FYI, you'll have to go through quite a few Twins fans here to get to 'em.
Besides, the Tigers had their day -- and a 104-win season -- in '84. There was enough euphoria then to last a decade or two, wasn't there??

Jeffrey Maier (born 1984) is known for directly affecting the outcome of Game 1 of the 1996 American League Championship Series between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles.
On October 9, 1996, the Yankees were behind the Orioles 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning. The then-12 year old Maier reached over the fence separating the right field stands and the field of play and caught a deep fly ball hit by Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter. The ball appeared to be heading into the glove of Baltimore outfielder Tony Tarasco, but Maier intercepted the ball and pulled it into the stands. While baseball fans are permitted to catch (and keep) balls hit into the stands, any such fielding of balls that are still within the field of play is not allowed, and ruled fan interference. By sticking his glove over the wall and catching the ball, Maier committed such interference.
However, right field umpire Rich Garcia immediately ruled the play a home run, under the protest of Tarasco and Orioles manager Davey Johnson. The game was thus tied 4-4, went into extra innings and ended when Yankee outfielder Bernie Williams hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the eleventh inning. The Orioles maintained their protest of the Maier interference play after the conclusion of the game, but their protest was denied by Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig because judgment calls cannot be protested. After later viewing a video replay, Garcia admitted that fan interference should have been called. The Yankees went on to win the series against Baltimore, four games to one, as well as the World Series against the Atlanta Braves.
Be good my brothers.
Two years ago when he was too worried about risking his upcoming contract to play in any of the Jets playoff games still infuriates me to this day. He let his teammates, his coaches, the fans and himself down. If he would've played, I really believe that the Jets would have beaten the Steelers and I also feel that the Jets were the only team that could've beaten the Patriots team that year. If that happened, the Jets would've found themselves in the Super Bowl. Well the Jets finally got rid of him, but it doesn't look like they'll be that close to the Super Bowl again any time soon. I can only wish that John Abraham has a long career but never gets to the playoffs again so he can always think what if...

I'm a Jets fan, but the one at fault wasn't Abraham. It was the Jets. They could've found a way to pay him what he was worth but they wanted to nickel and dime him and get off cheap and it came back to bite them. Abraham was right in not jeopardizing his career going into the off-season.
He did the same thing Matt Birk of the Vikings did this year. Birk was facing serious surgery, but told the team he'd suck it up and play injured (not hurt, which is a huge difference) if they team would "take care of him," and when the team said no, he elected to have surgery rather than risk furthering the injury.
Of course the media didn't take issue with Birk because he's "well spoken" and "plays the game the way it should be played."
Anyway, I've yet to meet a Jets fan who thought Abraham was the reason they didn't beat Pittsburgh.
GO MARLINS! Home of the best fans in baseball!!
I guess if I had to pick one it would be Savard. He was such a mousey little b-a-s-t-a-r-d.
Gene Mauch as well, for over managing Game 5 of the '86 playoffs against Boston. Terrible manager, the Phillies should've fired him after '64 and he shouldn't have ever managed after that.

If Gary Lucas knew how to throw a strike, the Halos would have never needed Donnie Moore. I was at the game that fateful day. In '90 & '91 I worked for the Angels & it was an unwritten rule to NEVER talk about that game.
I would pound Gary Lucas before Mauch.
