And when/how did you find out it had been doctored?

Kind of obvious AT. It does look pretty odd for NT. Others thought it was AT when I posted it here. Its holdered at NGC63.

Whether whizzing is "Doctoring" is probably open to debate....but I'll admit my sin. image

I knew it was "cleaned" when I bought it, (Bad Tom....Bad!!), but it had such a nice MS look to it, I figured it would net to AU-50 making the purchase price quite acceptable. Sent it to ANACS, and got the bad news: AU details, whizzed, net XF.

Learning mistake, I guess. I now know what to look for when it comes to whizzing!

What range did you pay for it though? MS value? AU value? Depending on what you paid, and aside from the whizzing look, it looks like a nice example (ie...dansco 7070) otherwise!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Agree it's quite attractive, which is the fatal allure of the "properly" whizzed coin. They LOOK nice....they just AREN'T nice. image

Don't remember EXACTLY now, but think I paid low AU-50 for it. Would definitely take a loss if sold. Lessons learned!

  • Cleaned Coin --- knew it when I bought it because the guy sold it pretty cheap for Type Coin. Looks nice in my DANSCO.

  • I sent a group of Morgans to Messydesk(VAMSLABBED) to have attributed by VAM #.
Included was this 1879-CC purchased raw at a local shop years agoand given to me
recently. John felt it was a added mint mark so he sent it with others to Mr. Van Allen
and he agreed. On the plus side I think six of my Morgans became discovery pieces.

Bought this on ebay for $25 already slabbed by ANACS as Net MS60 Recolored.

I have seen similarly toned Lincolns in open-face Whitman folders that I know have
    not been recolored.

I don't think of it as "doctored;" to me it's a work of art:

Yes, one of his early examples.

  • What obvious things are you seeing Dorkgirl that show it's AT? Sure, the guy is a Slimebay-cooked-artiste and probably he messed with it, but why couldn't he have just left it in a window, envelope, or some other thing hard to tell? He new creations don't look AT like that one--image

No picture, but I have a clearly doctored SMS Washington. The artificial frost has turned into haze.

This was in a NGC 63 holder. PCGS says it's AT. I'll get better pics when I get it back.
