Am I being insensitive?

My girlfriend's grandmother is moving to Florida from somewhere around DC or Maryland/Virginia area. She is 86 and doesn't want to move all of her things so she is letting the family take what they want, then having an estate sale. From what I understand she has some bucks, so it won't be a 'garage sale'.
I asked my girlfriend to ask her grandmother if she had any old coins, seemed innocent enough. She said she wasnt going to take the coins if she did and refused. I clarified myself and said I would be willing to buy them if she had them, but would prefer to not have to wait for the estate sale to do it.
She all of a sudden got mad because inside she is having 'issues' with taking anything while her grandmother is still alive, as if it is wishing death upon her. I let it go at that point, but really would like for her to at least ask. Maybe the fact it isn't my grandmother gives me a different perspective, or just being male, but was/am I being insensitive by asking and hoping she at least will ask for me?

I didnt word it as I preferred not to wait the 'time' needed. I just knew she said her grandmother didnt need nor care about the money from selling her stuff, so if anyone was going to get a rip why not me rather than a stranger?

I'm sure this wasn't your intention, but mentioning the estate sale made you sound ghoulish. Basically, by bringing it up, you were making yourself sound impatient for her passing so you could get the coins. Again, I understand that wasn't your intention. However, three words can sum up your situation, at this point:
You are screwed.

Just explain you're a busy guy and don't have time to wait for the old hag to die, and that you want her stuff as soon as possible.

My wife of ten years has been cheating on me for a year and just decided to break the news. She's leaving me and our son who's confused and only nine years old. I obviously don't have a very high respect for the female gender at this point, but my advice is to drop it and not say anything else. You cannot win no matter what, and they never forget anything you've ever said...so you're already screwed....now it's just a matter of how much.

Insensitive? Right before you asked your girlfriend about her grandmother's coins did you think to yourself..'If I ask my girlfriend this it may upset her'...? If that thought did cross your mind then yes you were being insensitive. If the thought never occured to you then no you weren't being insensitive. And if that means you're stupid, then that means all of us are stupid.

I agree with the others, you cannot win. Women use a type of logic that no man will ever understand. Give up the coins.
