Man, that really sucks. I feel bad for the guy. Over 250 miles from the show!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Obviously a well planned robbery. Notice that everything there is generic and impossible to trace. That stuff can be sold to various dealers immediately. Wonder if they used GPS???

Edited to add: My condolences to Jerry. Hope they catch the crooks and punish them.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't be leaving $56k out in my car without an armed guard.

It sounds like another follow-the-dealer-home-from-the-coin-show type of thefts.

People will shoot store clerks for $50 in the cash register. I'm sure some would have no qualms about putting a bullet in somebody’s head for $56k

Magnetic tracking devices are quite cheap and easy to use. I too would not leave 50K in untracable loot in the car.

I would try to look at where the car was parked during the show and have the cameras/tapes examined to see if anyone was near enough to the car to place a tracking device.

I feel sorry for Jerry but I gotta say

"What was it that happened at FUN just two months ago? Something about dealers stopping to get something to eat and leaving thousands and thousands of dollars worth of coins in their car???"
  • If you leave 50K worth of coins in your car you are either an IDIOT or running an Insurance SCAM.
    know what you don't know.

    hi, i'm tom.

The flip side of that is : If you are a thief, enjoy your spoils here on earth and steal all you can, you are preparing a place for yourself far beyond your wildest dreams.

If you are a victim, I empathize.

Tom, I doubt a person who travels with their wares, be them coins or girl scout cookies is out to commit insurance fraud.... come on now image. Let's face the fact that many parents did a lousy job of raising their children, let's not blame the victim.

Teach each other that what does not belong to you should not be touched by you ! Simple as that !
