SHOW GRADING

If one submits coins at $100 a pop for grading during a show and the coins don't get graded , are they returned to the submitter ungraded or sent back home to Newport Beach and moved to the head of the line?

I think unless you insest they be returned ungraded they will go back "home" and don't count on any of that head of the line stuff. Although since you did pay for thehigh cost walkthrough show grading they probably would bump them up. (You can promise fifteen day and deliver in thirty and come up with some good excuses as to why you should be allowed to keep the fee, but the excuse justifying keeping a one day walkthrough fee and returning it after thirty days would be worthy of a Pulitzer Prize for literature.

I have had this happen a lot, partly because I submit colonials (usually) and they are considered 'Special Issues' and sometimes need some expert consult or something.

Whenever they are not returned at the show, PCGS takes them home, and then ships them back with no shipping cost (as appropriate, of course).

I can't complain too much - I'd rather they take their time and get it right.

Almost always are all the show graded coins finished before the processing and grading staff head home from the show. In the (very) unlikely event that not all coins are finished at the show the coins get shipped back to Santa Ana and get finished there as soon as possible. I've only had the latter scenario happen to me one time.

For $100 grading fee. I would DEMAND that the coin be graded!

Anybody can demand anything, but having them actually honor your demands is another matter.

I had one show submission that took them around five months. I don't think I got free shipping.

I had a similar order take more than one week, and I didn't get free shipping on that order either.
