Hello all,
I'm obviously new around here, but I have been collecting coins off and on for the last 30+ years.
When I found this discussion board about a month ago, I was intrigued by references to "7070". So I investigated, followed strings, looked at diferent coins, etc, etc, yada, yada.
Well I took the plunge and received my own Dansco 7070 today I either had or recently acquired about 20 coins to fill the first few spots.
I have learned alot from this board, so I thought I would join and say THANK YOU!
Some of the strings regarding the 7070, discussed themes and strategies. I think this is what makes this particular album so much fun. I will post again when I have my "strategies and themes" in place.
Thanks again everyone.

My Type Set Thread (In Progress)
The cool part about that 7070 is the ease or complexity of options when filling it. You can do what you can afford as you can afford it, or one can be meticulous and selective in the process, while assembly may take years.
Many coins can be had for a great price while many more are going to be expensive even if they are bodybagged specimens.
enjoy it
Joe

I have a decent 7070 story. A few weeks after I got my 7070, I realized how tough the Seated Dollars would be for my taste and budget. So, I was at my local coin shop, and I was talking to the dealer about my new 7070. When I mentioned my 7070, he said he had just bought one the day before and I could look through it if I wanted, and pick some stuff out. Well, there were two well traveled, but fully detailed Seated Dollars that I grabbed immediately. A couple others fit the bill and I walked out extremely happy with my luck. On another note, I would like to add my thoughts concerning how to go about "strategies and themes." The 7070 that I looked through had a ton of circulated coins with good detail. But, some of the other coins were dipped to a bright white or were proofs. In my opinion, it did not seem to "flow" well when I saw really great looking circulated coins with proof and bright white coins. Obviously, the new stuff is going to look perfect, but the older silver coins looked odd when combined with toned "collector" coins. Also, I could have bought all the coins in the other 7070, but I want my own personal set, regardless of the time frame required to get what I like. Finishing the 7070 will probably be more disappointing than the gratification of finding each little piece for the set.

<< <i> The 7070 is a fun, but sometimes frustrating album. I was amazed that I already had over half of the coins just laying around. Some of the coins are so easy to find and some are a bear. I've been looking for 3 months now for a Bust 25c I can live with and afford. To me, the 7070 is a celebration of our coinage and I love the way a toned DCAM Proof Jefferson looks next to a nice toned Buffalo. Not too many agree with me, but that is what this hobby is all about! I especially think the last page was made to fill with DCAM coins >>
I have my 7070 about 90% filled now. Lately I have been upgradeing some of the stuff that I just filled holes with. For about 3 months I have been looking for a 20 cent piece. Found the one I want in an upcoming local auction. I just hope no one else wants it, too.

Actually, I'm not. But you have my panther, grrrrr. A vermont Panther commem is going in my album! That was 6th coin I decided needed to be in my 7070 (I just don't have it yet).
Vrmnt is Varmint ... goes with another hobby of mine.
14 coins from my collection went into the book, most becuase they were very nice examples, others because they are important to me. I could have filled more slots but ... I have a plan.
Not suprisingly to me, aside from the 1976 bicentenial coins, I did not have a single modern coin (not even a silver eagle) worthy of the "book", just a bunch of pocket change.
The first coin to go in: 1887 Morgan Silver Dollar, 1 of the first silver dollars I ever owned. My Dad bought it for me 30 years ago at a gun show. A guy had a whole mint bag of 1887 unc dollars selling them for $5 a piece. It's not unc anymore being one of the first silver dollars in a 10 year olds hands, but it is still a solid AU and nicely toned from the years.
The 2nd 3rd 4th are the coins from the Bicentenial proof set my grand father got me in 1976. I was actually in Philladelphia, where he lived that summer.
The 5th is a 1929 mercury dime my uncle got in change. It's also a solid AU. The significance is he got it from a freshly broken open bank roll in the late 60's. Another nicely toned coin after 30 years of whitman
More on this later ... Thanks all!
