  • sorry to say most people don't find the '21's compelling. I like them though.
  • Sorry, the pictures take too lone on a phone hook-up.

  • I find the '21s compelling enough for any ten people. image

First, though, the minute differences between AU58 and MS don't photograph well. Secondly, 1921's are tougher than normal Morgans because of the wide variance in MS strikes. Thirdly, I don't consider dipping when grading - most Morgans have been dipped anyways. Fourthly, I'm only a legend in my own mind. So take me with a grain of salt. image

In-hand, that '79S might be AU. Also, the discoloration on the obverse might or might not be something which would BB it or detract from the grade. If none of that is true, it's a strong MS64 with a shot at 65.

The VAM1O looks EDS. I'm going to call it MS63-64. This one's a "You suck - I don't have one yet" coin.

The VAM1I, I think, is AU55. There's softness about it that isn't the result of a weak strike. This one's an "I suck" here - mine's nicer than yours.

The small 21P is either AU58 or MS65. The photo is too small for me to see the details I look for when differentiating between AU and MS. I'd like to have that one in hand, and you wouldn't get it back. image

The big 21P is one of those "that's a shame" coins. I think it's as MS65 as an AU coin could ever get. The ding above the I, the ding on the neck and the gouge towards the bottom of the Phrygian Cap are the only problems. I have the feeling this one was dipped a touch too hard. If you have a QX5, check the fields at 200x. You can tell between a dipped coin and an undipped one at that magnification.

You completely suck for the VAM 5C. image I'm gonna call that a lock MS64, only downgraded because of the unfortunate scratch on the cheek.

The VAM1AF is 45-50. You still suck, but not as much. image

I think the VAM1W bodybags for cleaning. No better than AU50 otherwise. Further - I'm not sure of the attribution (all of mine - I really suck here image ) have much more marked breaks between the BU, which are obvious even at the size of your photo.

    The Thornhead is 40-45. Mine's AU50. image

Thanks for the wonderful comments!!!!! But you also have to remember, these are only 1 week's worth of killings. I do have some better examples in my collection and I am still looking for the last 2 to complete the entire Rob Joyce's Fun with 21....Hopefully will have it completed within a 2 month timeframe. I am still looking for a 1X and a 1B2.

The toning on the '79 S is very golden in colour.

Rob Joyce has a 21D registry. At least I am pretty sure he does as that is where I am pretty sure I saw it at. Search his website and you will find it. Cool coins. You may want to edit your first post on the thornhead to reflect that it is a 21S, not a 21D. image

Very nice. I'm jealous of the 1AF, been looking for a better one for my set. Tough coin!

    1879S - MS63
    1921-D - 1'O' AU slider
    1921-D - 1i AU 55
    1921-P - MS62 & MS63+ depends on luster
    1921-D - 5C - MS63, maybe better
    1921-D - 1AF AU53+
    1921-D - 1W AU50
    1921-S 1B6 - XF40 or better.

    Great haul for a week.

    I'll be there someday. image

But first, I think I'll have to liquidate my 21P's for financing - right now I'm positioned better there than the Denver coins.
