Boy the pcgs price guide is jerking us around.

There's many low pop coins, say like less than 5, that are way undervalued (or overvaulued), and for example some are listed for like $1000 when it should read $3000. I think pcgs knows the correct value now but is updating it $50 at a time every two weeks. [Sarcastic]Oh yeah, I'm sure sooo many of this pop 5 coin trade at $50 higher every two weeks[/Sarcastic]. Come on pcgs, if you know the value of the coin, just put it there and be done with it.

You can never go by any priceguide when it comes to rarities and scarcity image

More to the point, you can't go by any price guide that has access to recent real auction prices paid and does not avail itself of the information.

LR: Why such a bad TONE to your posts? You have meaningful things to say - why not provide PCGS with your thoughts in a positive manner instead of being on the attack all the time. For example, you made a good point about the 1977(d) Lincoln Cents in MS67RD last week. PCGS had dropped the coin from $600 to $575 on the Price Guide and you correctly pointed out the coin deserved to be $1000+ coin. The coin now shows on the Price Guide around $950 last I looked with a +. With around 10,000 prices on the Price Guide, it appears PCGS addressed your reasonable concern on that particular coin and grade in a very, very timely manner - no? I do believe you are coming on too strong with posts like PCGS is "jerking us around".

P.S. Many folks have coins in their portfolios like you are mentioning -For example, I have had the 1883 WC MS67 Lib nickel in my portfolio and the coin sold at auction for $34,500 last week yet the Guide continues to remain at $15,000 last I checked - the price where I picked up the coin for my portfolio ahead of the auction. Other Lib nickels have plused since then. Oh well. One day I assume they will get around to raising that coin $20,000 in price just like some of your $1,000 Lincolns may get raised to $3,000 in the weeks and months ahead.

Actually...we started the world series of coin trading so that people would complain about the price guide instead of our grading.

Just have to add one little thing to this...

Can someone please explain how the price guide actually prices coins? I just have to ask since the price guide has a listing of $4000 for the one and only 1968-D Jefferson in MS64FS which has never sold... but, the same guide has absolutely nothing listed for the 1965 Jeffersons in Full Step, which actually have more coins graded.

    Just wondering...image

That's funny, thanks David. I have a couple low POP coins that I bought within the last year. I have sent a couple of E-mails to PCGS asking whom I can contact to correct the price guide pricing and have not received a reply. I would like to help correct this in a small way. I think it's pretty hard for PCGS to keep the prices up to date unless we can provide PCGS with assistance. Perhaps there is a way we can contact SOMEONE in PCGS to provide updates. For example, Mitch said the price has changes on a coin. If we were provided a contact point, we could tell them a certain coin has sold at a certain auction for a certain price. It would be easy for them to check this out and update the guide. Just a possible soloution. Ray
