1818 toned quarter for sale-AU or nice MS?

Check out E-bay # 8392753546. It's not my listing, BUT, a BEAUTIFUL coin! I'm sure someone here on the boards would be VERY happy with what I see. He doesn't have any other coins near this one. I E-mailed the seller and they sent me a photo the next day with the colored background I requested, so it appears to be a real deal coin, ie, it appears they have the actual coin. Good luck to anyone interested. Ray imageimage

Thanks for the link, I'm almost computer illiterate on this stuff. I can't afford it, so I'd love to see it get to it's proper new home. Ray

I have a funny feeling about this coin.

I would be very carfull and check on the return policy.

One always wonders why such a coin isn't slabbed.

The color is too perfect and could be hiding a multitude of sins.

I'd agree with Bear......first thought to my mind is AT (at the least)

That's why I E-mailed the seller and requested another photo, with a specific background. They complied. That's why I believe them to have the coin. Perhaps not? Like I said, they don't have any other coins like it, only a couple smaller ones. Looks prety to me. Perhaps AT, but, when I started waytching it, the price was $10. The grade itself would be well worth the guide price itself, would it not? If coin is real color, MUCH more, right? I have added this coin to my virtual coin collection as a type coin anyway. Should be interesting to watch? Ray

The coin might be from the China Mint.

The spray paint could have been done locally.image

If I was wrong about the coin then I would have been taken. I was going to bid up to $750 but it was already over that when I posted to the boards for all to see. If I won the coin, I would have submitted to PCGS to see what they said. If AT it would probably have gone into my dansco, or NCS to be stripped of the fake color and resubmitted to PCGS for slabbing.

I'm not aware of any Chinese made seated coins, I know of the trade dollars and some other silver dollars. Does anyone else know what other Chinese coins to look out for? Thanks in advance. Thanks Bear for the warning of something might not be right. That's what these boards are all about, helping each other, right? Ray

I have, from a friend who went to China and knew I liked coins and thought he was getting a bargain for legit OLD US coins, an 1848 Liberty Seated dollar.
So, yes, they do other coins....(he saw more in the box there). They'll do whatever makes them money.

I kind of understand that too.....they have lower income (by a lot), it isn't their country nor their money. So, they likely feel it is even less bad than fake handbags, pirated software, etc.
