On 3/4, I listed an item on Ebay . It has a BIN at 229, an almost retail price. On 3/6 this guy does the BIN. Now on 3/9 I get this email
DEAR SIR, I ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE WRONG KEY ON THIS ITEM. I AM SORRY FOR THE INCIDENT. I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING THIS ITEM BUT NEVER AT THIS AMOUNT. PLEASE ADVISE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COUNTER OFFER.
Is he trying to negotiate now that he took the item off the market??
What should I do

BIN and COMMIT. He seems to be trying to play you, but it's your call.
I would file a NPB and be done with it before the buyer does it again.
I feel your pain, fortunatly it doesn't happen that often.

Simply file a Mutual Agreement to Not Complete the Transaction in the Dispute Console and your Final Value Fees will be credited.
He wants the coin, so he BINs so he can take it off the market while he tries to negotiate a lower price with you. For you, this results in lost auction time, extra effort in relisting it if you don't reach a deal, and the hassle of getting your listing fee back.
I'd block this guy AND report him to eBay.

What this guy did is not cool but it does happen. I've gotten one that is worse.
I send a guy a $15,500 coin which he agrees to the price. He gets the coin and calls me and says if I can't have this coin at $15,000 then this is the last deal I will do with you. The guy totally held our business relationship hostage over the price of a coin. I gave him his $500 off and was very courteous. I thought it was pretty low of him to approach a negotiation this way and will probably not be sending him anymore coins because of it.

No, it was a different coin.
Out him and block him

I'd type a witty comeback, but fer' some reason I can't think of one.
I had serious temptation to ditch the deal (which I have never done before) but did some research on the guy and it appears he is on the up and up. I hope to get my package in a couple weeks. (fingers crossed).

barely.. I'd say it was almost a longshot
Those damn hairyhead collectors....
I would tell the guy that you will file a nonpaying bidder complaint- I think he's just trying to play you....

Good question...Here was some advise given by a forum member in a similar situation and thread over on the currency forum...
"Don't be petty. Obviously 20 bucks is a lot to him. Let it go, don't neg him, and ask him not to put you on his "fav" list...in fact not to bid on your items at all.
Can't believe all the petty people who want to ream him over such a small item."

Well, not to be petty, cuz I ain't got the money and stature of Laura or Stewart, David Hall or Warren Buffet, but there is a little difference between twenty bucks and two hundred twenty nine dollars. Don't you think ?
In all fairness to the thread author, he only asked "what to do".
My opinion and course of action is "write it off" it is a loss, treat it as such and move on. Don't cry over spilt milk, re list the item at face value and no reserve and see what the orb is really worth ! No brainer, once again.
As for the bidder ? Don't do anything. Ignore it. It's gone.

Well "cuz", it looks to me like a case of the proverbial shoe being on the other foot...

And I responded...Follow his own advice....

Not only would I not be sending him anymore coins, but I would inform every dealer I knew of his actions. I would do my best to make sure that NO ONE else is willing to send him coins.
