Get rid of the penny and add the five dollar coin.

    How big should it be?

    I'd use a $5 coin.

Nevermind, I use a check-card. I haven't paid with cash for anything in the last month or so.

At 5 dollars, we could afford to put some real silver in it.

  • Circulating, no way! One of the things I dislike about traveling overseas is carrying around all that coinage. I prefer my coins in plastic...

A $5 would rock! It's an excellent coin to put Teddy Roosevelt on.

  • Use a $1 coin and a $2 coin like Canada does. They are very handy and not too bulky.

The big step for the US is getting rid of the $1 bill.

Go to one decimal place. Get rid of the 1c, 5c, 25c. Reduce the size of the 50c. Add $5 and $10 coins. Inflation dictated this long ago.

Eliminate the cent. Reduce the size of a nickel to the size of the cent. Reduce the quarter to the size of a nickel. Reduce the 50 cent piece to the size of a quarter. Print the $5 coin on a coin the size of a 50 cent piece that’s the shape of a somewhat rounded off pentagon. Make the $1 coin round, and in between the size of the 50 cent coin and the $5 coin. Print the $10 coin on a coin in the shape of a decagon (10 sided).

The Brits deep sixed the pound note long ago in favor of coins. Works for them. Won't happen here any time soon because it makes too much sense but I actually like the idea. Once in a while I get a Sac or two from some vending machine and they actually make buying a cup of coffee and small items easier than fumbling for my wallet. A fiver coin would be good too, especially for people buying $3 lattes from Starbucks.

Gee, remember when a cup of coffee cost 15 cents? Of course it tasted like dish water.

I agree a $5 Dollar circulating coin would be nice and so would a $10 also. Probably the reason they are not issued is that the coins might easily be counterfeited.

Get rid of the nickel, but keep the penny.

  • I am in favor of the $5 coin.

Realize the 2 Euro is counterfeited.

I have long been in favor of stopping production of the US cent.

I keep getting dollar coins and after looking through them for the mules, I spend them. [2000 dollar coin production was something like 800 million, rumors repeated on this board suggest that 50 or 60 mules were made...the real kicker? My odds of finding a mule are better than winning the lottery AND I get to spend each "chance" I buy for a dollar]

I like the idea of a $5 coin, as long as Michael Jackson and Hilary aren't on it.

And I don't necessarily mean together.

  • How about a $2 and a $5 coin?

And for that matter maybe a big silver $10 or $20 coin?

    Yeah, that's the ticket!

I'd like to see circulating $2 and $5 coins, but one step at a time. First we need to kill rag-bucks and zincolns. Once people are over the shock of that, they'll be much more receptive to larger denomination coins and further currency reforms.

The leaders of our fiat society would never agree to putting precious metals into a widely circulating coin for obvious reasons.

Bear comes up with some of the greatest ideas! image But here's a better one! How does, 'one coin fits all" sound? That's right! Get rid of all the coins and come up with one that's fitted with a credit/debit bar code! Whatever you buy is paid for, deducted from your bank with just one drop of the card/coin through a slot and represented with your fingerprint! image

  • I'd be all for a $5 coin (especially with some silver in it) but you gotta know that the nay sayers will win out and the whole plan would be scraped or it would turn into another Sac dollar US Mint money maker collectable.

Yes, and a $1 coin too. Personally, I would like them in bronze.
