    I like it. It's one of the few out there where the obverse wear actually matches the reverse wear. Very nice.

    Thats a good one! Au-55. Who cares what the grade is. That has almost 200 years of life in it.
    Collecting cleaned, scratched, scraped, AT and ugly POS coins for over 2 years now!

    This looks like an AU 58. The faintest rub on the cheek; the softness on the reverse looks like striking characteristics for Bust Halves.

    Will it be for sale?image I'd say 55/58. Probably too much rub on the breasteses and cheek for 58 though. And, it could possibly be in a mint-state holder that personally I feel would be a load. But again, what do I know?

    If one could grade by pics.................I would say AU58
    Great hair detail, the only rub I see is in the hair.
    A little soft on the drapery line.
    The cheek appears to be discolored, but I's hard to tell if there is rub there.
    Top of the left wing seems soft, most likely wear, but still AU58 IMO

    Thought I'd bump this thread since the grade is in from PCGS. They graded it MS62.

    I am suprised at this one Russ. I would not pay MS money for her no matter what the slab says. I guess if the next owner collects plastic and is not a coin collector......
    It is a nice coin though, just not MS in my opinion.

    So having held it raw (I only saw it through the slab), what is your personal opinion of wear?

    It looks dirty...you should crack it and scrub it clean image

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    So pcgs graded this the same as NGC. This just can't be. Grade is not important and I feel the owner of this coin should just enjoy it for what it is.... a nice looker. Always love when the sheep always say PCGS lower, and NGC higher as blanket statements. Heh

    Don't you ever wonder how a coin like that survived all these years being essentially untouched. That was big money in the day, not to mention modern crap in 1827.

    Glad I didn't get a chance to post before seeing the grade that came back. I was WAY off. (Too Low) There has to be something that explains the 'goofy grades' between AU & MS62 for Bust Halfs. Are the services just 'market grading' this series for coins in this range based upon their overall eye appeal? For common date coins, its a price range between $250 and $1000 or so for the AU-MS62, and I wonder if they don't just assign a grade that they believe is appropriate for its market value. As a general question, do you think 'market grading' is more prevelant within the AU-MS62 range for most other series? I can't see any consistent technical differences to explain some of the results that I see. It's a bit bothersome to be comfortable telling the difference between and MS63 & MS64 or between and MS64 & MS65....but to not be able to consistently tell the difference between AU55 & MS62!!!!

    What seems to be the suprise, here? At LEAST 80 to 85% (actually I think higher) of the graded bust coins that I have seen in MS 60-63 holders are AU coins. This is because the TGPs dont't grade coins...they PRICE them. It has been that way since the TGPs started; it is still that way today; it will be that way in the future. image
    Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

    well, I said it was excellent... I think this is one that needs to be seen in hand to appreciate. Without a doubt, it is a strong and likely candidate for an original surfaces designation.
